Dissidia: Final Fantasy ~ Tarutarus > YOU

Confirmed Roster (so far)

Final Fantasy I
Final Fantasy II
  • http://i36.tinypic.com/mv4uas.gif Firion – About as vanilla as RPG heroes come. He’s a ground fighter able to use twelve weapons.
  • http://i35.tinypic.com/29lzrqo.gif Emperor Mateus of Palamecia – Madman who tried to use the power of hell to conquer the world and then got consumed by his hubris. Sets traps and shit. Strategic character (Snake! Snake?! SNAAAKE!!).

Final Fantasy III
  • http://i36.tinypic.com/11mayj6.gif Onion Knight – Has the best job ever, if you disregard becoming an orphan and getting his arse kicked rigorously. He’s a high-speed flying character who can transform into a Ninja or Cleric when EX–Moding.
  • http://i34.tinypic.com/2ymsgtf.gif Cloud of Darkness – Necroning it before “pulling a Necron” were even a phrase! She’s a magical character who has to be used “wisely”, meaning she's all about timed combos like in Phantasy Star Online.

Final Fantasy IV
Final Fantasy V
  • http://i33.tinypic.com/9tcnk7.gif Bartz Klauser – More vanilla than Firion, he’s Marcel Marceau à la Final Fantasy. He wields the other characters’ weapons when mimicking them.
  • http://i37.tinypic.com/263au5c.gif ExDeath – Evil tree who spends his time gloating, blowing stuff up, tying moogles to train tracks, and twirling his long, black mustache while demanding the poor sobbing heroine PAY THE RENT. Another magical user, but one who especialises in countering and guarding moves.

Final Fantasy VI
  • http://i34.tinypic.com/4gmert.gif Terra Branford – Say, is that steampunk and metaphysical angst I perceive on the horizon? She’s a magic user able to fight at both close and long range.
  • http://i37.tinypic.com/35jjngx.gif Kefka Palazzo – The God of Magic! He’s a “trick star” with erratic movement and a powerful mage (also the only Final Fantasy villain who actually suceeded at what he wanted). Think of him as Voldo without claws but with fireballs.

Final Fantasy VII
Final Fantasy VIII
Final Fantasy IX
Final Fantasy X
Final Fantasy XI
  • http://i38.tinypic.com/2n6dz86.png ShantottoA Taru master of lost black magics,
she doesn’t fret when fighting baddies.
She may be small, but she’s not weak,
for she’s bestowed with great skill.
She chants her rhymes when in the bout,
then kicks your arse upon the ground.
‘cause all it takes is one wrong deed
and down you go, you poor ol’ shit.
    O-hohohohohoho!

No, Genesis was stupid. I don't care that he was the one that motivated Sephiroth in the least, but he was very annoying as a character and it was the main reason I label Crisis Core as fanfiction. Genesis is just a pretty boy with emo issues that was obviously tacked on to the story.

Dissidia is a celebration of what makes (or made) Final Fantasy great. Leave the RL people out.

Anyway, news: it seems that a postcard book will come out the same day as the game. It will contain 23 illustrations by Nomura. We already know 22 (two for Cecil and one for Shantotto), so this seems to hint that we'll get two other extra characters. XII and XIII representatives?

There's a V-Jump article with 5 pages showing Cloud's Advent Children costume and his EX-Burst. His EX-Mode is definitely similar to Squall and Tidus -the Buster Sword is replaced with his Ultima Weapon. The article also confirms all the EX-Bursts for all 20 characters.

EDIT: Translation of the Final Smashes:

Warrior of Light: Over Soul - Combo-style attack.
Firion: Fervid Blazer - Uses all his weapons for a combo attack.
Onion Knight: Ninjutsu/Daimahou - Uses Ninjutsu and Daimahou (Great Magic) of the Ninja and Sage jobs.
Cecil Harvey: Double Phase - A combo attack of darkness and light.
Butz Klauser: Mahouken Nitouryu Midaregiri (Magic Sword Double-Wielding Random Slash) - Combines the powers of his allies into one powerful attack (he combines everyone's swords).
Terra Branford: Riot Sword - Countless blades materialise from her hands to dice up the opponent (it's her Desperation Attack!).
Cloud Strife: Choukyuubushinhazan (Omnislash) - You know very damn well what this is.
Squall Leonhart: Renzokuken - Yup, press R to trigger for more damage.
Zidane Tribal: Reverse Gaia - Highspeed combo attack.
Tidus: Ace of the Blitz - The same as it was back in FFX.

Garland: Soul of Chaos - Attacks with the giant blade, causing the earth to shudder.
Emperor Pallamecia: Zettai Shihai (Absolute Control) - He controls his opponents mind by using his magical artifact.
Cloud of Darkness: Chou Hadou Hou (Super Wave Cannon) - Mega-beam that destroys everything, bringing despair.
Golbez: Sou Getsu (Twin Moons) - Releases the black dragon within him, along with an enormous burst of magic.
Exdeath: Uchuu no Housoku ga Midareru! (Throw the laws of the universe into chaos!) - Throws the universe into chaos by using the Void holding all dimensions together.
Kefka Palazzo: San Tou Shin (The Warring Triad: Doom, Pandemonium, and Goddess) - Follow the command patterns and press the buttons for power.
Sephiroth: Supernova - The harder you spam O, the more damaging it is.
Ultimecia: Jikan Atsushuku (Time Kompression) - Yeah, you can also trigger this for more damage lol.
Kuja: Last Requiem - Trance Kuja combos with powerful magic.
Jecht: King of the Blitz - What kind of killer move does transformed Jecht do!?

EDIT2: Character Styles:

Warrior of Light: Uses both sword and shield; balance type character.
Firion: Better at ground fighting than air; uses lots of weapons in ground fight.
Onion Knight: Highspeed flyer; can evade attacks and fight back.
Cecil Harvey: Dark Knight = Ground, Paladin = Air; play wisely.
Butz Klauser: Uses lots of weapons and can also use magic.
Terra Branford: Uses magic both at close and far range. Choose magic wisely for range.
Cloud Strife: High damaging individual hits. Easily achieves Brave Break (cutting off of opponent's Break meter).
Squall Leonhart: Best at close range comboing, the closer the better.
Zidane Tribal: Taunts opponents with his agility and speed; good at rushing down opponents in the air.
Tidus: Almighty character; great in attack power and speed. Easy to use.

Garland: Slow movement, high attack. Transform your weapon to pressure and defeat your opponents.
Emperor Pallamecia: Uses land mines and thunder seals to set up traps. A strategic character.
Cloud of Darkness: Time your buttons to cause different effects. She is powerful when used wisely.
Golbez: Attacks close and far range simultaneously. Make full use of teleporting to fight skillfully.
ExDeath: Great at guarding and countering attacks. Uses powerful techniques.
Kefka Palazzo: Uses lots of powerful magic. Key in commands to increase power.
Sephiroth: Once you hit it, it guarentees a combo; very strong. Very fast as well.
Ultimecia: Specialise in far range magic; spam and you release more.
Kuja: Speed-type magical character. Cast magic while you're on the move.
Jecht: Powerful character in melee. Transform and you become even stronger.

I say we should ban Cloud already.

So yeah, just commenting that. Hopefully an XI player can confirm this.

Jeebus, Tera, we have to stop ninjin' each other.

Anywho, it seems Shantotto's EX form only has something similar to the Black Mage relic.

Lemme get rid of my loser late thread and I'll fix things in this post.

BACK IN THE BATCAVE: Ask and ye shall receive:

Some side-by-side comparison makes it seem Shantotto is wearing something only slightly similar, which actually might be a good idea, because then she wouldn't continue looking like the "generic NPC" most NPCs are in FFXI.

No hat for Shantotto, but she don't need no fucking hats.

I liked your thread title more, but whatever.

The only difference I see between Shantotto's model and that picture is the lack of hat, so I guess we can assume it is the Black Mage Relic. Why no hat? Because those pigtails grant her +65 dexterity, I guess. :p

We'll probably get her artwork (and opponent, if there's one) in this week's Shonen Jump. It seems Square wants to spoil the secret bonus characters, and with three weeks until release there's enough time for them to do so.

I found Genesis a better villain then Sephiroth due to the fact that Genesis had more depth. When you compare the two, Genesis was the superior villain.

At least HE didn;t have any mother issues.

Alright, I'm biting. I keep seeing this Dissidia thread or some remnant somewhere. What the heck is this game?

Daimo Mac, The Blue Light of Hope 11-23-2008 08:18 PM

Final Fantasy: Dissidia is a game coming out for the PSP next spring in Japan. From what we are told, The 10 Villains and 10 heroes from each game have been brought together by two entities, the Villains are of course are serving the Chaotic Evil side of things and the heroes are serving the Chaotic Good side of things.

Unlike most S-E fare, this is not a standard RPG but a RPG fighter.

Jagos 11-23-2008 08:19 PM

RPG... Fighter?

Is this Secret of Mana on steroids?

As much as I hate Sephiroth, I disagree, for the sole reason that Genesis never seems powerful or in control of anything. Sephiroth at least provoked an atmosphere on tension in the original FFVII.

But I digress.
