Chrono Trigger DS? Mo' like Chrono Trigger: Dis Sucks, amirite? (spoilers!)

Hey you know what'd be awesome, would be if they remade Chrono Trigger, and then turned Magus into a total pussy. Just like have someone poke him with a harsh-words stick, and then he curls up into the fetal position and cries like an itty bitty baby.

That'd be totally awesome, right guys?

Something tells me this will be closed, so rather than say what I was going to say, I'll just end with this: Despite my complaints, it's not THAT big of a deal. I'll still buy and enjoy the game. I just wish they'd kept it a self contained story.

The thing is, I could totally go for that optional boss and even Schala's role in it, if they had kept the whole thing self-contained and made rescuing her, or at least putting her to rest, a possibility. THAT could have been cool. Instead, we get a cliffhanger for an ending that was revealed years ago and was never that satisfying to begin with. Now the game's plot is incomplete, and I can't even look forward to a good sequel because the sequel already happened. It's just a really weird way to go about things.

That's really all. I mean, there's absolutely nothing more I can say. They took my favorite Squaresoft character of all time in Janus Zeal and made a crappy, personality-defying ending for him. How is that possible?!? It should be humanly impossible to write a crappy ending for Magus! HE'S MAGUS!!! Even middle school children writing crappy fanfiction couldn't screw over Magus this bad!!

And that's why we don't get an actual new Chrono Something. We'd be too busy bitching about one aspect of the game to appreciate the actual merits.

Yeah, Square has an entire department devoted to scouring the internet and finding out which fans dare to speak out against them, then destroying said fans' favourite franchises. Why do you think they stopped making good games?

Anyway, I don't really WANT Square to make new Chrono stuff. If anyone did, I'd like it to be someone who wouldn't screw everything up.

Okay, imagine you're an Auron fan, right? Everyone who plays Final Fantasy X is an Auron fan.
Now imagine that a new version of FFX is released and in this new version an alternate "true" ending is revealed in which, before the final battle, Jecht spews some philosophical bullcrap and Auron responds by curling up into a ball of angst and regret, unable to do anything whatsoever. "Oh, crap, I came all this way just to lose? Oh, well, alright. I'll just accept that. Why not fade into oblivion, that sounds like fun. Nothing really matters to me anymore."

Well see, one of the fun things about time/dimension travel is messing with characters, and playing out different possibilities with them. That's why I can buy the OoCness a bit. A BIT.

It's just, why oh why does that always have to make said characters emo?

The only actual merit of this port is that it technically still has the Chrono Trigger ROM in it. People hate Chrono Cross because it took everything people loved about Trigger and literally murdered it. Notice the key word there: "literally." They actually had the beloved cast of the first game killed off before the sequel even started. Not even nice deaths. Chrono and Marle were slaughtered in a war and Lucca died in a goddamn fire. Robo's cameo appearance consisted entirely of his total cybernetic obliteration.

And no, that shit isn't worth spoiler texting.

The fact that they carried over the mentality of "Hey, you know what we really fucking hate, I guess? Chrono Trigger. Let's ruin the characters everyone loves some more!" into the original game itself is just absolutely depressing. I'm sure as hell not buying it.

And that's why we don't get another Chrono Something. Because they make things out of the franchise that people are actively opposed to purchasing.
