Twilight

So... I haven't heard enough about these books to give a damn, but about half my class in training at work, as well as my trainer are obsessed, and I mean it, with the Twilight books. If someone tries to tell me I should read something, okay, but my time is valuable, give me a reason. I'm not avoiding these books, I just haven't seen any reason to actually read them. Whenever I ask what's good about them I just get, "Oh, I can't explain it, but their just so good and it's so romantic and OMGKAWAIIEDWARDNOMNOMNOM!"

Are these books actually any good and worth my time, or would it be better spent sleeping, eating, or combining the two?

Read Shortpacked, starting from here. Covers pretty much everything you need to know.

The best analysis behind the hype of Twilight is that "Every generation needs their The Craft."

But yeah, Shortpacked covered all of it. As he frequently does.

From what I'm hearing the movie is better than it should have been. But I don't know how much that means.

I could come up with some kind of witty analogy to describe how bad they are but then people might actually read them.
So don't read them.
Just don't.

Everyone chill the fuck out! I got this!

And that's Twilight. Also this and this.

Okay, one more for the road.

I can see how that would become instant avatar material.

Also the only people I hear praising this book are girly girls and people who orgasm at the thought of Harry Potter. I'm going to stray away from this book as it looks like it's filled with vampire sex. And the vampire isn't a woman.

POS Industries 11-24-2008 05:40 AM

Yeah, I really have no opinion either way on the books themselves, but the shit making fun of it is just hilarious.

Like so.

Basically, near as I can tell it's what the WB executives wanted out of Buffy, which is to say it's Dawson's Creek with vampires in it.

EDIT: Sparkly vampires.

Mirai Gen 11-24-2008 05:44 AM

Harry Potter was a fun read, but that didn't stop it from being poked fun at. The Order of the Stick comic especially springs to mind.

Twilight must be bad, because entirely too many people are having fun at it's expense. Plus, seriously, there's no way they can all be wrong.

The Artist Formerly Known as Hawk 11-24-2008 07:51 AM

You know, this doesn't sound too far removed from the whole Buffy and Angel saga from the first 3 seasons, except, ya' know, crap.

I mean doesn't the guy even turn evil at any point? Do they ever have to fight to the death?! Because clearly you can't have a vampire romance novel without a fight to the death.
