"Last Airbender" movie cast.

The main cast for M. Night Shyamalan's live action adaptation of Avatar was announced today. So, discussion time I suppose.

1. It seems that Aang will be played by Noah Ringer, a 12 year old that nobody really knows anything about.

2. Nicola Peltz was cast as Katara.

3. Jackson Rathbone, that guy who had like one and a half lines in Twilight is playing Sokka.

4. And for Zuko (bracing for shitstorm), the role has been offered to Jesse McCartney.

So yah. Comments? Opinions? I guess the bright side to everybody being white is that my orgasmicawesomedreamcasting of Hugo Weaving for Ozai is possible, although it wont happen because the universe is never that awesome.

I actually like the Zuko guy better than the Sokka guy. Look seems to fit more, I think.

They nailed Sokka right there, apart from the skin colour.

I do find it sad that everyone in the Gaang is Caucasian. Part of the message of the show was that people from distinct nationalities and races could coexist regardless of their differences. I won't cry too much about it though.

You're right. The only pic I saw of him was how he looked in Twilight. I recant.

Caucasianness aside, I like that they seem to be reaching out to more obscure actors for the cast. Don't know about Jesse, though I admit I'm really just being prejudiced there having not actually seen anything he's acted in. None of it looks particularly promising, though.

Have they said what the movie's exact plot is? If they're going straight to Aang taking on the Fire Lord then they're skipping over a whole damn lot.

You know, it occurs to me that this film could quite easily end up being as bad as the Dragonball movie is most likely going to be. God I hope M. Night knows what he's doing.

I'm expecting a great deal of training montages or the whole team getting together, each bending their element...And Sokka throwing the boomerang or something. Said alternative would be to demonstrate THE POWER OF FRIENDSHIP!

But still, Shyamalan?

I hope it doesn't suck.

It's just the first season, so they wouldn't be skipping too much. It could still easily end up feeling very rushed, especially if they try to put too much in.

Even after hearing that the writers were getting involved, I'm still not sure how you can reliably jam the first season into movie length. It developed a really good vibe of the GAang just bullshitting around the world to avoid actually facing the implications of the war. That works spread over 20 episodes but might feel too plotty in an hour and a half.

Besides like, Hannah Montana, are there that many 'well known' child actors? I couldn't name you three and I'm staring at the list.

Although I do hope Jesse McCartney works in some sort of reference to how he beat Shaq. It couldn't hurt the movie anymore with the handicaps it already has.

I don't give two figs about their skin tone. I care about their acting ability. Which is really hard to judge. I just hope they spend time with the original voice actors to really get a feel for the characters. And that Zuko's makeup is decent. And that the CG turns out looking cool and not lame. And...

I am hopeful for this movie. I watched the creators talk with M. Night on the 2nd season bonus disc and feel confident that he will listen to them and respect the ideas they are trying to convey. However, I will suspend judgement. I suggest others do the same.

If I was in charge of the movie, I would cast the voice actors as the actors (at least Aang, Katara, Sokka, and Zuko, I think their voice actors could all pull off the look of the characters pretty well), and base it on a comic I read once about "what if the Avatar hadn't been found for several more years?" Give it a fresh new story, and the original voices!

Although I guess that's why I'm not a director. XD I hope that they make this movie awesome.

EDIT: Concerning the races, even if they just have one dominant race, I'm kind of surprised that they went with caucasian rather than asian, considering the definate asian influences of the show.
