So when did that become "GAY"?
So, I was in a chatroom earlier tonight... in the "I'm shipping out and I'm going to miss everyone" doldrums... and I came across a conversation. This guy was being picked on because he said that a particular celebrity, male in this case, was rather goodlooking. Now, regardless of the fact that he was bi-sexual, (not that I have anything against people who are bi-sexual in any way shape or form) he was being made fun of and being called gay. Now, he didn't tell anyone he was bi-sexual until long after the teasing begun, and I couldn't help but sit there and think about how UNFAIR it is that people would do that to a guy just because he said Mel Gibson was good looking. (And I so agree!) So I put in my two-cents.
"So, if I said that Jennifer Lopez is gorgeous, does that make me gay?" I asked these people. "That doesn't count, you're female." one of the other chatters replied. I couldn't believe they said that. Talk about doublestandarding. "Does that mean if a guy hugs another guy, that's gay?" I asked. "Yep." "What about if a girl hugs another girl, is that gay?" "Not at all, all girls do that." This coming from another girl. I couldn't believe the stupidity of these people. So, they went on calling this guy names and I gave up and left the chatroom. But I figured, I'd tell y'all what happened and see what you thought about the situation. Should we really doublestandard people like that? I mean, is it really fair that we call a guy gay just because he thought that a male celebrity was good looking and overlook it when a girl says "I'd screw her if I were gay"? If we're pushing so hard for women's rights in America, shouldn't we hold them in the same regard as men? Lemme know you're thoughts! |
I agree with you. People are shallow minded these days. I'm a guy and if another guy thought he a certain person was good looking, I probably agree with him. (I'm not gay, I'm just pointing out someones better looking than me) And Guys do hug. I've seen non-gay guys hug because they haven't seen each other in a long time.
As for the girls thing, we just get excited. (sorry) I mean, there are times we need to treat them as equals without making them feel low. Girls just have a different way of thinking than us. Edit: Now a days, almost anything you do is gay. People can't even eat certain foods without someone saying anything. Once at school,I tried to eat a banana, and everyones like "Awww don't" I mean, everyones going crazy. |
Yeah, people take everything way too seriously these days. You can't do anything without it somehow, in someone's mind, being gay. It's stupid! We live in a day and age where being homosexual is accepted by society (well, tolerated at least), but at the same time is more of a taboo than it ever was. Men can't do anything these days without worrying whether it'll make them seem gay. Here's something I remembered. I was watching Leno a few months ago and they had Ringo Starr as a guest. He was telling a story about the early days of the Beatles and how this one night they had to sleep on top of each-other in their van to keep warm because it was so freakin cold out. You could hear the audience giggling away like a bunch of f**king idiots and you knew they were all thinking at least for a second "gee, I wonder if the Beatles were gay?". They're the frickin BEATLES!! What the heck is wrong with people!!!??

I know. Sometimes you can say the wrong thing without thinking. Like in 9th grade, we were doing an activity. "What would you do if you had a Million dollars. And while working on it, I said I would make men kiss each other. The girl next to me said " Dont you mean girls" I only said that because the other day I was watching the simpsons and bart got Lenny And Carl to kiss for a hundred bucks. I was thinking it would be funny and I could use it against the person on a later date if they pissed me off in some way. I wasn't thinking at the time though.

It's not just people that are deemed gay either, like somebody saying "Man, that car looks gay." Because people nowadays talk like that (though not everyone) we're turning the word "gay" into a degrading term.
Also, everyone knows the Beatles weren't gay, just stoned. |
Tank, i think your terminology for the word is more pronounced "ghey" as given to us by the late movie comics.
Honestly though, it's a problem. I can't go to the movies with just one male friend of mine because we'd look gay, no matter that we just couldn't find anyone else to go at the time. Nowadays if you dress a bit flashy, or you have feelings, or possibly even think a member of the same sex is attractive, you are entitled "gay" and evicted from conversations. Actually, I'm starting to think it's getting pretty funny. Mess with their minds a bit: Get a male and female friend and hang all over them both at the same time. See what happens! It's great! Of course, I'm talking about a 13-25 year old category here. After that people usually shut up or just don't care. |
Yeh, it's like the slut thing. Girls get degrated while guys get a pat on the back for sleeping with multiple people.
Funny how these things work. |

i have a friend that's bi actually, and it was pretty upsetting, when he told me. Not like hysterical, but he had to be defensive and assume id make fun of him. He's my friend!
|
I don't do this myself, as I'm a wuss, but one of my friends will hit on someone if they call him gay, just to spite them.
They usually stop bothering him after that. |
