Show your custom sprites... Free Prizes*

*May not be free or prizes

I tried my hand tonight at my first custom sprite. This is more than a meager recolor, I made this one, but I did use other sprites as a guide for height and where all the body parts should be. I haven't named her, but I've decided that she is a time mage. Opinions?
Please post your custom sprites. Let's make a contest out of this thing.

/EDIT: Here is a better drawing. \

Oh, and please check out my web series before I go away for the summer. :(

Well, I just made this one using the Sprite Maker system, but it IS a custom sprite technically. I was thinking of making it into my Avatar at some point, just haven't yet...

Nice. I don't even know how to make sprites. I just recolor

Here's a quick selection sprites of the Bishi 8-Bit version of my internet self.
Or, to put it less confusingly, a tall self-portrait sprite, containing my internet character's traits - Powers of negativity.

My references were:
  • The "8-Bit Theatre" sprites, for the eyes and face in general.
  • Previous test-anime drawings I did.
  • Actual articles of clothing.

To explain the choice of background color.. It's just so that I can remove it from sprites in Photoshop/SWiSHmax without taking any vital colors as well.

dragonglove 04-16-2004 11:51 AM

Is it alright if I judge the contest? I have no spriting skills so I can't participate. I won't post on who's is best yet in case we have more entries.

As for a name, how about Karen? I don't know, I like it.

Sure. There isn't going to be a prize... that was a joke. The prize will be respect and... um... other things that don't cost money and do not exist in the real world. You can be a judge, but I'd prefer it if you finished your next "Forum Days" comic. :D
Karen... maybe... possibly... probably.

Custom sprites? Sure. It's a necromancer I've been working on.

EDIT: Karen sounds good to me.

Dark_Merlyn 04-16-2004 06:45 PM

I am doing a series of ArchMages. An ArchMage is the charachter in my avatar in red white or black. Wait and see!

SNAFU 04-16-2004 08:03 PM

I am glad that everyone has realized that in order to have a good sprite, you need several poses. Regardless, I do believe that I am winning. ;)
Here is a wallpaper I made. I've made a few of these using different characters, but I think this is the best one yet. Check it.

froofmyster 04-16-2004 10:39 PM

Biran, your sprites are really cute! Simple, funny, and pleasant. Simple and Clean is the waaaaaay... AAAAAAH! I knew I shouldn't have played Kingdom Hearts all afternoon! Now I've got that goddamn song in my head!

Shall I dig up the old Custom Metools, or is this good enough?

SNAFU 04-17-2004 12:16 AM

A lot of those look suspiciously like Sky Warrior Bob's... na.

I'm lame. My sprites are mostly re-colors, but I did do some (note: a LITTLE) editing in them to get the different outfits and hats and such. ^^;;

EDIT: Ooh! I found more. The second set I'm more proud of. I actually had to edit, rather than re-color to do those sprites and emotions.

I don't know... CHICAGO*lollie's, Inev's, everyone's sprites look good.

EDIT: And here's a little animation I just found. It's a little choppy and not my best work, but oh well.

froofmyster 04-17-2004 09:13 AM

Inev, can I use your 8-bit Sprites? They would really come in handy for the flash I'm making.

I don't like the implications in that. Anyway, the story goes that a non-Froofmyster buddy had asked me to create a few sprites, mainly poses for Fighter, Black Belt, and some Ninji, for his 8-Bit-themed movie, so I obliged. I didn't know that he had asked a lot of other spriters for similar poses, and it seems he also asked SkyWarriorBob... I would never steal sprites from a fellow Spriter, and especially not from the badassed SkyWarriorBob.

SNAFU 04-17-2004 12:22 PM

Oh, I wasn't accusing of stealing. You can tell that those are original and not Bob's. I was refering to the style of Fighter's sword thrust. It is very similar to Bob's, but it is hardly stealing because I'm sure you drew those yourself. I was trying to say something cute when I probably should have kept my mouth shut.

Biran 04-18-2004 07:24 PM

Meh, I was bored, so I used your idea, Acolyte, and made this wallpaper.

Nice, the lens flare at the singularity is a great little touch. I like that plasma effect.
I would be remiss if I didn't put up a sprite sheet of my avatar. True, this character is a recolor of an Imperial something from FF6, but the game only had 6 poses- facing and walking up, down, left (inverted for right). Everything else I made.

Ive been trying to make sprites. I havent made much progress yet but ill post when i get better.

p.s. i wont show you the sprites ive made now because they are terrible.

SNAFU 04-20-2004 12:19 AM

To keep the theme of sprites, avatars, and the text centered wallpapers based upon them.
I give you:

Well, it took me awhile, but here is my first custom sprite sheet. I recolored Edgar's head (FFVI) and plopped it on the heavily edited body of Locke (FFVI). Dunno if it counts as custom or not, but here goes!

Ertyuio 04-24-2004 06:24 PM

could someone show me where i could go to make a sprite. is it really easy or no?
because this looks like a little fun.
Its a good name Dragonglove. But the chances.............

SNAFU 04-24-2004 06:56 PM

I know I am posting a lot today, but I ship out on Tuesday...
I went to this website to get the skiny on spriting. It has a bunch of ideas and templates you can use.

Ertyuio 04-24-2004 06:58 PM

thanks

MC43 04-24-2004 09:23 PM

Well... I think I'll throw up some of my work. I made this a while back, but I"m very proud of my Monk sprites. Basically all I did was take the Black Belt sprite, and edit the clothes a bit. It was the kicking I had a hard time changeing, but I think it came out rather well.

Monk!

(I'd show my pic right in this post, but in all my time in this forum... I still have no idea how to do that!)
