Jobs, And Dreams Jobs

So based offa this thread, we're all pretty much jobless, and what a better time than when the economy has gone on such a rise?

I thought that it would at least give us a Christmas larf to make fun of our last jobs as well as talk about our dream jobs. I'll go first.

Old Job
So the nurses have taken a strike vote - 98%, and they want everyone to support them (which means striking even though the rest of us have contracts that aren't up for discussion for another few years) which means that we could get fired. But if we cross the picket line, we get in trouble with the Union.

Also, the Health Department is considering shutting down the third floor (full care - for people with serious physical or mental problems) because of violations and code problems.

That combined with the fact that since the place is owned by two separate entities, and literally seven different managers (Marketing, Sales, Social Co-Ordinator, Kitchen, Third Floor Kitchen/Housekeeper, etc.) meaning that everyone is getting payed from different sources and messy management (as well as general gossip atwixt about 150+ different employees) is making The Garden's go belly up.

I am so glad I quit.

Dream Job
I wanna be a financially secure writer.

Current job: Alumni calling center, begging graduates for their precious monies.

Dream job: Financially secure novelist. (Probably going to get a lot of answers in this vein here.)

Current job: Lifeguard and swimming teacher moonlighting as a first aid instructor and examiner.

Dream job: physicist as CERN. Or something at CERN. CERN is the big thing here.

Old job:

I actually got screwed on this one. After I left, the asshole store manager got fired, as well as the horrible bitch of a front-end manager that made Phantom's life hell. The entire place was re-structured so that it was actually a pretty nice place to work, and while the rules are enforced better now, the same goes for management, which was an issue before when they wanted to be assholes either passive-aggressively or sometimes directly.

Sadly, the changes also involved transferring managers randomly between the three area stores, including mine, who I liked a lot. The guy they switched her with seems pretty cool, but I've noticed a lack of some of the other workers that I was on good terms with on my unit, too. I think a lot of people walked when Nana got transferred. I guess that both managers are really helping their new stores, but I can't help but be a little selfish. Nana is totally awesome and I often toyed with the idea of re-applying after I left, but now, I'd have no reason to.

Dream job:

Hammering out code. I'd like to maybe work for a game company, but that's damn competitive and I'm not a competitive person, so I'd also be happy doing something else.

Current job: Working for Apple Inc. in the technical support department

Dream job: A professor of physics working at MIT.

Old job: Dog trainer. It was great and all, but I wasn't making enough money, so hoping to start doing it on the side in the near future and go from there.

Currently a mail man. Pretty good money, and that's about it. Otherwise, it's basically the exact opposite of a call centre job, only (some of) the supervisors are still asses, but it's okay because you're only within their sphere of influence for two or three hours of the day.

Dream jobs:

- Professional massage parlour tester
- Kung fu legend
- Lovecraftian elder god (I went for my road test last week, so things are looking pretty good)
- rock star
- the rogue in a traditional fantasy adventuring party

I worked in a call centre for about nine months (which made me a veteran). Easily the worst job I ever had. I've heard that doing it for collections companies is actually not too bad though.

Eh... I think of it this way: I get paid 7.50 an hour to sit still and either recite a memorized script at some poor alumnus, or listen to some poor alumnus' answering machine, or laugh at some poor alumnus' incredible overreaction to me asking him to support his old school. Oh, and I actually spend most of that time browsing forums and Wikipedia on my laptop, or doing homework if I have any.

So it boils down to me getting an hourly wage to do what I do when I'm bored anyway, with a bit of added inconvenience/unintentional hilarity. The only way I could see that as not advantageous is if I had to actually dial the numbers by hand (thank ye GODS that's not the case).

Edit: I do notice a lot of people get more stressed about it than I do. Not sure why.

Current Job: Adobe tech support - Acrobat, InDesign People wag dildos in my face all day.

Dream Job: Professional Student!

Current Job: Doing schoolwork aka unemployed. But during the summer I work at a packaging factory, which sucks balls. Folding 4,000 pieces of tissue paper a day (tissue paper for thong boxes from Victoria's Secret, no less) is not as glamorous as one might think. Working on the machines that glue together those boxes isn't so great either. And the flexo machines? Terrible, makes my hands swell up like nobody's business. I'm hoping to not have to work there again this summer but I'm not going to get my hopes up too much.

Dream job: Animator/character designer/anything to do with art.
