Inspirational people you know
I'd like to ask a question of the Nuklearpower members. Could you guys help me out?
Basically all I wanna know are about inspirational people in your life. They can be famous people, or just people you have met like family and friends. I'm looking for those people who have overcame great personal difficulties such as family, situations, or illness and disability to do great things. And example of what I'm looking for would be Helen Keller, who despite being deaf and blind traveled the world, taught similarly disabled children, was an activist and if I remember correctly, learned quite a few different languages. They don't all have to be on such a large scale as hers, and chances are someone you know has also overcame difficulties in a similar way. Any takers? Thanks for the time. |
Do they have to be real people? 'Cuz I had someone in mind, and he's all bits and bytes.

My father.
He inspired me to be everything he is NOT. |
I dunno about inspirational, but that guy that walked into a California home on xmas eve dressed as Santa Clause and started gunning people down and then blowed the house up with drums of frickin racing fuel definitely caught my attention.
Evil? O yeah, definitely, but I give him 200xp for being original. I've never heard of anyone doing something like that before. Too bad he can't use it since he burnt himself up in the process, he might have leveled up from that. Oh and if you're wondering what I'm talking about, http://www.timesofoman.com/innercat.asp?detail=21695 |
I don't have any inspirational people, so there was only one course of action.
I had to inspire myself! |
My uncle was hit two years ago with Guillen-Barre Syndrome. Over the course of a day, he lost function of his arms and legs. He could not eat, move, or pee on his own. He is in his forties. Over the next year, he was forced to shift from hospital to hospital (and several old folks' homes, he was so helpless), sometimes because they didn't have the resources to help him through his rehab, sometimes because his nature just pushed the workers too far. My grandmother did all she could to support his journey through rehab, despite constantly mounting medical costs.
After a lot of work, a lot of money, a lot of exhaustion, my uncle can walk using leg braces, is able to live in his own home, and can return to his job. It took a ton of willpower and effort, and the rate at which he recovered was unprecedented, due simply to his determination to be self-reliant again. |
My inspiration came from looking around at the people who were supposed to be my role models, and thinking, "Come on, guys. You can do better than that."
Terrible, terrible parents. |
I'm noticing a lot of negativity. Cheer up, people!
Cliche as it may be, my inspirator is my father. I can't imagine how he does what it is that he does. My mother had cancer, and is less capable than a two year old (imagine the mind of a child, but with the body of an adult, and the kinds of trouble this person would get into). He takes care of her, while still working two jobs, and managing to still do housework. He even finds time for his hobbies (video games and carpentry). How he keeps his motivation to keep going is beyond me, but he's still a happy guy, still has time to talk, and... is basically the best dad you could ever ask for. |
To dial up the cheese-o-meter....
Pretty much everyone in my family inspires me for one reason or another. My dad had a rough childhood (abusive parents) but he managed to move out on his own and support himself at 16, get through college, and all of that good stuff. And he's just a great father. Always puts people before anything else (He originally wanted to be a school concelor so he could help kids, but ended up being a nurse because of situations) My mom has always been kind of model for myself as the type of person I'd like to be. Strong, yet caring. Great mother figure, and, as a teacher, is a better mother to some of her kids than their own parents. My oldest brother and sister-in-law still awe me with their selfless bravery in opening their home to a little blind boy who desperately needed a home, (after his previous family decided that they didn't want to deal with a blind kid anymore, and it was pretty much "find a family in a week, or get sent back to the orphanage in the Philippines"), even though they weren't looking to adopt, and bringing him into our family. My other brother's fight against cancer inspired and touched me in many ways as well. It really bugs me when I see people, who have perfect health and nothing really to worry about complaining more than my brother ever did when he was getting his 8 hours of chemotherapy (which was REALLY rough on him). And my nephew, who I haven't even known for five years, but he's taught me so much about what you can do as long as you never say that you can't. Any time I'm confronted with an obsticle that seems too hard, I just think of my nephew who does stuff every day that people say he can't just because of the way that he was born. And there you have it for cheese. |
Oh wow, I never expected this many examples.
If ou people who replied don't mind writing it up, or me using them in a series of stories I'm planning to write, could you please pm me with fuller details? I'd greatly appreciate it. |
