Stephen King Royal Rumble?

I didn't know whether to put this in books or games so I decided here.

Would a game that featured the villains from some of the Stephen King books facing off in some kind of Mortal Kombat, Street Fighter, generic fighting game, format be at all interesting? And which characters should be included if such a game were to exist?

Satan's Onion 12-26-2008 10:31 AM

This sounds like a Games thread to me, despite the ties to literature. So I'm gonna move it there.

Well, you want Roland Deschain for a start and definately Randall Flagg.

Other characters should probably include, John Smith (I foresee much cane based attacks and precoging), Carrie White, Cujo, It (kinda like a Tsang Tsung shapeshifter), Mordred Deschain (Werespider morph special attack), that Firestarter girl (can't remember her name)... and that's all I can think of right now, but I know there's a ton I've forgotten.

Don't forget the President of Harvard, aka the Raggedy Man. IT. Ripply infested Jonesy. And that crazy hick guy from Lisey's Story.

I can almost imagine how everybody would attack and it is both awesome and hilarious.

Trashcan Man, maybe? I haven't read much Stephen King, but he seems like he could work.

What, other than the last few Dark Tower books, has Stephen King ever done to you guys.

Seriously, fighting games based on literature? Preposterous!

Maybe he could throw bombs and use other assorted explosive attacks?

I'm trying to figure out how to make Christine work, but having some difficulty visualising it.

Oh and the Crimson King of course. He could throw sneetches.

Amake 12-26-2008 03:45 PM

Christine would have to be a boss. It's a car that runs you over and heals all damage if you let up the face smashing before it's crushed into dust, that's hella imbalanced. It could have normal living cars and trucks for minions from Trucks.

And then there's Tak. He could possess other characters and make them bigger and stronger but lose life all the time.

By the way the Firestarter girl's name is Charlie. And it's Shang Tsung.

The grey beer drinking mush pile from Grey Matter would be good and gross. Also the guy in the wheelchair with alien eyes in his fingers from I am the doorway. Ted Brautigan would have to be in the game, if only in a tutelary role where he makes the heroes stronger. Dolores Claiborne could be an ordinary-looking slow elderly enormously strong woman. Of course there's Barlow the vampire lord from Salem's Lot. And I'm imagining the gunslinger apprentices, Susannah, Eddie and Jake as some sort of multiple character that moves, shoots and takes damage as one. Charlie Decker could be an ordinary man with a gun and why not a charismatic ability that diminishes his opponent to make things equal. A company of articulate toy soldiers would be interesting to play. I wonder if John Coffey could play a part even though all he does is the opposite of what you do in a fighting game. And let's have some goddamn Langoliers in there.

And the final boss is Abagail Freemantle playing guitar at you.

When I think about it, the levels of the game seems like they have more potential than the characters. We'd have Outlook Hotel, The Ledge ledge, haunted corn fields, the Pet Semetary, The Raft raft, Rock & Roll Heaven, Crouch End, the powerfully haunted Black House, the 1408 room, the whatever the hell they call that funny place in Lisey's Story, ghastly scenes from Duma Key and Cell, not to mention any number of classy locations in the Territories and around Castle Rock.

It would be a fighting game with Jack Nicholson as a playable character, which would be all kinds of awesome.

No love for the Tommyknockers?

I could really see those gizmos coming in handy for ranged attacks.
