A New Project - The Retro Gamer

I recently started a new project, which I have dubbed "The Retro Gamer" and I wanted to share it with my fellow gaming nerds.

Basically I am doing reviews/play-throughs of classic games from the PS1 and back. For example, I did a video about my experiences in the first 10 hours of Chrono Trigger, and I am currently working on a play-through of an old 1993 adventure/puzzle game called Companions of Xanth.

To view the videos you can visit 1 of 3 places:
http://theretrogamer.blip.tv - My BlipTV Page, where you can view the videos in full
http://www.youtube.com/user/retrogamerclay - My YouTube page, where you can view the videos in Segements
http://the-retro-gamer.blogspot.com/ - The offical blog for The Retro Gamer

So have a look, tell me what ya think! If ya have suggestions for games I should look at let me know. I already had someone suggest Paladins Quest for the SNES. I want to do Earthbound and Lands of Lore The Throne of Chaos as well.

It's not a bad idea at all... it's not something that hasnt being done before, but it's something that it's not done often enough too...

For ideas i would say that people in the majority would rather see pieces of the game, get it all chewed up nicely... and a way to deal with that would be for you to record just the gameplay... then, cut out any "Boring" parts or segments that might slow you down... and then, record a narration over that...

It's not as espontaneous, but it gives you better control over everything...

Also, i would suggest that you go out and find the games nobody reviews... review the hidden gems, the really bad ones, games noone ever heard about. Wanna do PS1? There is a Japanese PS1 Naruto game out there somewhere... that rare stuff has it's own crowd that you could serve

Xanth? Piers Anthony made a video game? That shocks me...

Well it was made based on the book Demons don't Dream. Or, the book was based on the game.

I forget which exactly.

Yeah, and it was made with a lot of gilt in mind...

All in all, I may not agree about CT, but I understand why you don't like it so I'm cool about it. But just having something on Xanth, which I had actualy wanted to see, intrigues me. I'd have to put my opinion, if you can find obscure or underreported games, that'd be far better than just the Top ten. For example, on the PS1 there was Azure Dreams which no one played. And I've always loved the Jet Set Radio on the Dreamcast (same era as PS1)

I played Azure Dreams and enjoyed it. Not sure if I still have it though.

Piers wanted to do a game, but didn't have the ability on his own, so he outsourced game production to Legend and wrote the book as the base. They show a lot of differences, but they originally were packaged together.

That said, Legend produced a ton of other awesome titles worth looking at, including a Deathgate game that's surprisingly intelligent considering most of their stuff was comedy.
