My parties for the final Fantasy's were
FF1: Fighter Theif Bmag wmage
FF7: Cloud Barret Cid
FF8: Squall Zell Irvine
FF9: Zidane Garnet (or dagger) Vivi and Steiner
FF10: Tidus Yuna Auron
FF10-2 (dressphears): Berserker (Yuna) alchemist (Rikku) Samurai (Paine)

there were several threads about this... but they're closed, so I'm game.

I find the best FF1 Team is: Fighter, RMage, Bmage, Wmage.

Don't play the other ones: don't have the systems, too lazy to get the ROM's.

A 4 black mage party or a 3 black mage / 1 white mage party would be fun to try out, simply for the ejoyment of nuking everything in sight into chunks of sirring flesh, or a 4 fighter party for the thrill of pounding anything that crosses my path into a few pounds of freshly flayed organs; but my main FF1 party Wmage Bmage Thief and Fighter.

FF1: Fighter, Thief, Red Mage, Black Mage in that order.
FF3: (Starting) Fighter, Monk, Red Mage, Black Mage (Current) Knight, Master, White Mage, Black Mage
FF5: Dragoon (Lenna) Knight (Butz) WM/TM (Galuf) Ninja/Samuari (Faris)
FF6: Terra, Sabin, Locke, And the last character changes depending on my needs.
FF7: Yuffie, Cloud, Vincent

I didn't bother the ones I used in FF4 since you can't form your own parties anyway.

Game mechanichally wise that IS the best party.. :)

I'm using a solo redmage. And it's hard. Very hard.
