"I'm Coming Apart! Oh Mother Of God, I'm Coming Apart!"

So I just watched the original The Amityville Horror, The Exorcist, and The Nightmare On Elm Street. Just wondering what horror flick I should pick up next - probably this one, or this one.

I'm debating atwixt the original Halloween, or the remake. On top of that I have to decide between the old Friday The 13th, and the new Friday The 13th. And apparently I have to see The Amityville Horror Re-make. I was always hoping they'd re-do It.

So what do you think about redoing old horror flicks, and what flick should I watch next? And what's your fave?

EDIT Oh, I've also seen: The Shining, Children Of The Corn... and a few others that I canna remember the names of right now.

Most of the remakes that have come out recently(last 3-4 years) have removed the tense sections in favor of adding more blood and gore. I know a lot of people get a thrill out of watching people being slowly tortured but it doesn't make for a scary movie. Texas Chainsaw Massacre is the worst example of this. The original was great and the remake was awful.

Oh man! You need to see the original The Haunting. It is fantastic. A real classic, and still creepy after all these years.

If you're looking for a slightly more modern horror flick, I highly recommend The Kingdom. I believe it's Dutch? A really creepy two-part series about a haunted hospital. You might have to do a little searching to find a copy, but it's great. Steven King tried to remake it recently, but you really can't beat the original. Man, I haven't seen it in a long time... I should try and track it down.

Have you seen the first Evil Dead?

Cause you should.

The other two are silly, but ED 1 is scary as fuck.

I'm going to go against the remake backlash vibe and to recommend The Ring (but not Ring 2). Also, either version of Funny Games, since they're frame-for-frame remakes in differing languages.

That's the Lars von Trier psuedo-satire-comedy-horror miniseries, right (with the sun thumbs up Morning Air thing)? If so, I think he's Danish. I think he's making a new horror movie soonish.

Mm, you could watch The Thing for Sci-fi horror. I thought the film Rec (Yes, the Spanish one!) was one of the better horror films to have been made in the past few years.

I also enjoyed Stephen King's The Mist and Samuel L. Jackson in a fridge.

Edit:
Night of the Living Dead, Dawn of the Dead(The old ones), maybe The Descent

If you're looking for something gory/funny, but not suspenseful, I'd recommend 2001 maniacs.

I've seen DOTD, and while that was pretty good, I didn't like NOTLD that much.

Or better yet, you could not go against the remake backlash and suggest the original, Ring, which is superior in every possible way.

Personally I'm not a massive fan of horror, but I'd definately suggest Event Horizon. It's has both the hauntingly tense aspects as well as the blood and gore aspects, so everyone's happy.

oh shit yeah!

Also Storm of the Century while long is pretty damn good...it isn't haunting right after you see it but then you start thinking about it a couple of days later and...well. It's great for when it's a big snow storm out side

Also if you haven't seen Blair Witch you should...if only to laugh at it...I swear it is the funniest movie I've ever seen. I almost passed out from laughing...no joke...I started it totally Mystery Science Theatering the hell out of it but by the end of the first half I couldn't even string 5 words together because I was laughing so damn much
