When the director's away, the studios do unsavoury things to X-Men Origins: Wolverine

Looks like the studio may have won.

It's been rumored that Superman director Richard Donner has been seen on set and some of the set pieces have been repainted to the studio's liking. Odder still, journalists have been invited to report on the reshoots.

While Hood is still at the helm, one has to wonder how the reshoots are going to affect the lead actor, Hugh Jackman's ability to do his Oscar duties.

Fans want a dark, gritty "Wolverine" movie because that's what the character is. Those adamantium claws aren't for back scratches, they're for back impalements. If "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" is closer to the "PG" side of the tracks than the hard-"PG-13" side where fans want it, then the movie will open huge but when those other big summer releases come along, it will disappear like all off Fox's movies last year. Can we just Call FOX the EA of movies now, please?

I hate Fox so much. Why do they have to exist!

I have a hard time believing that they could show that trailer and not see that it at least interests the average comic book fan.

Cause really I doubt they care about making a great movie so much as getting people to watch it, and it seemed like it was headed exactly that direction.

And Fox has decided, probably erroneously, that the best way to get the most money out of it, is to make it kid friendly, and probably a little silly.

The people in charge of this company have proven they don't know much about movies, as evidenced by their bizarre forced changes to movies like I.Robot, Australia, and Babylon A.D. against the directors wishes.

Wow, great job Fox.

And by great job I mean fuck you.

I didn't think the trailer looked awesome, but I thought it looked way more interesting than I thought it would.

Same request as in the Cowboy Bebop thread.

Fifthfiend 01-16-2009 05:56 PM

Oh yes please let Fox ruin the Wolverine movie. Oh you magnificent bastards do it, do it and I will kiss you places I have to get on my knees to reach.

I honestly don't care either way about this movie but even from a movie studio's standpoint it is absurdly stupid.

Archbio 01-16-2009 06:57 PM

Is it? I think that it's the only standpoint from which this isn't stupid. Okay, maybe from a gumby standpoint it also isn't stupid. Then there's the anti-Wolverine fanatic standpoint.

It's just that Widening the potential audience is right up there in the studio executive book. Not being ridiculous is in the third tome of the book which hasn't been published yet, apparently.

Alienating a large and vocal fanbase isn't the best strategy for widening your potential audience. Also, making movies suck, isn't good for that either...for most recent example, see: Australia.
