School Strip-Searchs Teen

http://www.cnn.com/2009/CRIME/01/16/...rch/index.html

I found this browsing around today, and it completely infuriated me. I seriously hope that schools don't hope they can get away with shit like this. I mean, really, strip searching a 14yr old girl looking for ibuprofen on just word of mouth from a student who got busted having it? What the fuck has our world come to?

We actually already discussed this way back in the day when it first happened, so you can get most of our opinions there:

However, courts have already ruled in the school's favor once so its an uphill battle for her. Its a shame too, as it was undoubtedly a very traumatic experience that will affect her for a long time to come.

Thirteen year old. Not fourteen, thirteen.

Still, all I can really say is that I'm glad I'm not in middle and high schools anymore and thusly don't have to deal with this. I don't think I would have been able to comply with such a violation. Overall, the emotional damage and constant worry this'll create outweighs the minor benefit it may give.

Oh shit, didn't realize it was discussed already ^^; (Gah, why must I see something on a news site and assume it's new?). I know had I been in her shoes, I wouldn't have put up with that garbage. I'd have called my parents and have them get a lawyer down there >.>

Wow, this is the first I've heard of this...

I would think that the officials who did this would be under high suspicion. Where I live, anyone who did that, no matter what their position in the school, and no matter what the circumstances, would be fired on the spot.

What troubles me more is that some courts have ruled in favor of the school. Aren't the courts supposed to protect us from this stuff? What, we have laws against child pornography and rape, but something like this is just fine?

That's the same girl, Seil. It's also already been linked by Swordchucks.

What bothers me is this line:

Quote:

In its appeal to the high court, the school district said requiring a legal standard of "probable cause" to conduct student searches would cast a "roadblock to the kind of swift and effective response that is too often needed to protect the very safety of students, particularly from the threats posed by drugs and weapons."
Rather odd, our rights mean nothing, only swift responses to students who just might somehow be getting high is what matters.

I wonder if they knew that Ibueprofen in high doses would likely kill a person before getting them high?

Armake21truth 01-18-2009 01:00 PM

Probably not, getting high is just so evil to them(and why I don't know) that they're blinded by the very idea.

What makes them above the law? What gives them the right to strip-search a student? Why weren't the police called before all this happened? Why weren't her parents called first? This makes me absolutely livid. If I were her parent, you had better damn well believe I'd take it as far up the courts as possible. I would have been on the phone with my lawyer the second I found out about this.
