Mall Cop

So, I saw this last night. i actually really enjoyed it. I mean it was pretty much slap stick/fat guy falling down every 10 seconds of the movie. But, I mean whats not to like about that?

The only thing I didn't like about the movie was that the main actress had no personality and had like 5-10 lines the entire movie...I mean really, go watch it and count the number of sentences she says, its ridiculous.

Anyhoo, who's seen it or has thought about seeing it?

It looked so unfunny in the preview, but if I was feeling generous, I felt like it was just saving the real humor for the movie instead of ruining it.

Unfortunately, if it's just slapstick humor of the kind shown in the previews, it doesn't look good at all. They wasted Bon Jovi on a poor preview.

Somehow I get the feeling this sounds like Napoleon Dynamite only not funny.

Fixed, since ND wasn't funny.
Oh man, train wreck in 3...2...

Nah. Napolean Dynamite is very much horribly overrated.

Paul Blart: Mall Cop looks like it might be a good stupid comedy to catch on TV. Overall, critics rate it in the 4.0 - 4.5 range, and users on Metacritic and RottenTomatoes rank it 5.6 and 6.2 respectively, which really is rather good for a stupid comedy.

I was dragged by my sister to this film on launch night. The first half was painful as hell, although that may be because I don't really enjoy watching people make an arse of themselves. Everything else after the mall is taken was enjoyable, however.

I'll meet you halfway, because I hold particular fondness for the school bus/farmer/cow scene in ND.

People love to hate Napoleon Dynamite, don't they?

I really enjoyed Napoleon Dynamite. I saw it before the hype though, and I can tell the hype ruined it for a lot of people. It got quoted to death and the lines got tired, it's like people who can't stand Monty Python because nerds quote it all the time. You have to see it before all the lines are butchered and taken out of context.

Mall Cop looks like it will be an extention of Date Movie/Epic Movie/Sports Movie, and things along that theme, where they kinda try for drama and story but it all takes a backseat for cheap laughs. Am I misguided?

I love Monty Python, and I lived with someone who quoted it endlessly. ND was just.... bad cinema.

Yes, you are misguided. As DMD can tell you, Meet the Spartans and its ilk are not stories, they are a series of extended trailers which have been jazzed up with vomit and kicks to the balls.

I've read that this sort of devolves into a toothless Die Hard parody in the mall takeover scenes, and since Live Free or Die Hard already exists and Arrested Development made every good Segway-riding joke there is, I can't really think up another reason to see this.
