So Howabout That There President

Yeesh, I'm kinda shocked we haven't had a topic about this yet.

I'm watching Warren do the prayer right now. He's doing a pretty good job.

EDIT: And Biden just got sworn in.

Watching Biden being sworn in. This is going quicker than I thought it would. Thought this would be a longer ceremony. Media made it seem like there'd be a lot of celebrity entertainment or something.

Pleasantly surprised there's none of that.

Said too soon, musical act. Might be good, though.
"Air and Simple Gifts" by John Williams.

Edit: CNN says that since it's noon, even without the oath, Obama's now officially the president. Interesting.

Hey, Obama's term just started.

The music, on another note, is awesome.

And Simple Gifts, which is part of it, is a Quaker song. (I'm a Quaker. So that's cool for me.)

And heeeeeeere's Obama!

EDIT: NEW PRESIDENT YAY

Viridis 01-20-2009 12:07 PM

Oath done. That's a wrap. And then angels descended and heralded a golden age. Or that might just be in my head. Either way, awesome.

Edit:
"Today I say to you that the challenges we face are real. They are serious and they are many. They will not be met easily or in a short span of time, but know this, America -- they will be met."
Awesome.

Seeing Bush take off in that helicopter was probably the giddiest I've been in awhile; between that and Obama's awesome speech, this is one of the happier days of my life.

Well, at least it will be, as soon as my car's brakes start working.

Obama as president shows how attitudes have changed and it shows that we are living times when huge changes can be made and it depends on everyone, but we will see how Obama will manage. I hope he actually does something significant in positive way and I wish him luck.
No new wars is one of my wishes, but we will see.
Let's give our hopes about better environment policy too and if America does its job goddamn well, I will salute those who do it.
It's kinda sad though that economy is now major problem as there's not time for more important subjects as much. But well, let's see what will happen.

One of the biggest concerns will be Obama's safety, there's no doubt about it. The USA may break apart because of assassination of Obama. Keep the man alive.

So when Yglesias said "Looks to be a serious upgrade from a technical and design standpoint," he was just talking about whitehouse.gov, but it's a really succinct description of my feelings on the new Presidency as a whole.

I hope I don't get shot down for not saying that Obama's speech had me all warm and fuzzy. He contradicted himself by saying that the people are what make this country great and keep it going, then implying that whether or not the government is large doesn't matter and that people would have to turn to it for work. Overall it seemed like he was trying to touch on too many different topics, while trying to make a lot of memorable quotes.

And whether it was implied or not, that prayer at the end sounded like it was trying to convince people that blacks are still in captivity and sitting on the backs of buses. Could you imagine a white guy getting up there and saying "the yellow can be mellow, the red man can get ahead man." He'd be crucified.

And what the hell was with that poem?

Quote:

when white will embrace what is right
We just elected a black president.

loldemotivator, but it sums up my thoughts pretty well.

Good riddance, Bush, and help us with fixing this mess, Obama.

Just to clarify a bit more, the US needs a clean start, and we'll be able to get it with Obama.

At least, I hope so.

A bit older, but:
