Retro Gaming

Commander Keen, Raptor, and Doom made up my earliest video game memories, run from DOS and everything. In fact I think that Raptor's "Callsign" space was the first use of "Mirai Gen."

God I loved those games. Commander Keen especially. A lot of my old school gaming consisted of Sonic and Mario, though. Which is in no way a bad thing.

Eye of the Beholder made me it's bitch untill i learned English by Playing "Robin Hood : THe prince of Thieves" on the nes.
And by that point i still was it's bitch, except now i knew why and didnt care

Also i was afraid of playing Doom and Castle Wolfenstein =3

But i was even more afraid of Alone in the Dark... which ironicly is still more of a survival horror than most survival horros released in recent years...

man I loved the Doom games.

Oh man I just killed a bunch of pig demons and some imps.
What's with this large room? OH SHI-- There are two of those barons?! Run away!!!

later

OK, I think I am safe out her... WHAT THE CHRIST IT IS SHOOTING ROCKETS!

I remember playing Doom together with my uncle.

Me and my brother also had a Sega Mega-Drive (or Genesis) so I played and loved Sonic. My early Nintendo experiences I got at two of my friends houses; the other had NES and the other SNES.

How old must games be to qualify as retro?

Mm, I remember playing Lemmings and Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles for the Amstrad...before that playing the Tron Bike game for DOS! After that came along the Amiga with Big Nose the Caveman, Prince of Persia, Shadow of the Beast (Which terrified me), Rainbow Island II and many many more... Yes I'm looking at you Dizzy and Zool!

One of my most fond memories that I remember was playing Monkey Island with my Mother as she read everything out to me. (Was wonderful, like an interactive story time!). Lots of the jokes went over my head at the time, but never the less I will most definitely doing something similar in the realms of parenting!

I remember when my uncle put Doom onto my computer and me playing it, and then my dads friend coming over and telling me the cheat codes. It may not be my first experience with gaming, but it was my first experience with cheat codes. I remember trying to type it in on other games. Mostly Duke Nukem 1 and 2, which I played a lot around that time too.

I grew up with some pretty awesome games for a kid and a few that had a mit more mature content, like Lands of Lore.

To list off, I spent much of my time by my dad's playing Epic Pinball, Riptide, Lands of Lore, Jazz Jackrabbit, Hocus Pocus, the Hugo trilogy, Simon the Sorceror, Monkey Island 1 & 2, Peganitzu, Raptor, Eye of the Beholder, Biomenace, Commander Keen, and Kiloblaster.

At home (lived with my mom for main custody), we had some other stuff, which was all pretty good for stuff that 90% came out of a bin (Mom just didn't get video games). Some of the high points were Wheel of Fortune, Lands of Lore again, Castle of the Winds, Island of Doctor Radiaki (a parody of the likes of Wolfenstien and Doom), Corridor 7 (a shameless Doom clone), Torin's Passage, Lost in Time, Street Fighter 2, Iron Man and X-O Manowar in Heavy Metal (it lagged a bit, but was playable), Superhero League of Hoboken, and more advanced stuff after Dad built us a 98 machine, like FF7 and 8, Grandia 2, and a few PS1 games after Dad gave us ePSXe. We got a free PS1 a few weeks later. XD

Duke Nukem II was especially funny for me, because a year or so ago I dug up the old box for it, complete with the floppy drive disk to install it/play off of.

I loved reading the system requirements on the back. "Graphics: VGA slot."

You kids make me feel old, because I remember playing games on the Atari 5200 as a kid, as well as playing Text adventures like Zork and ASCII dungeon crawlers like Moria
