Top Ten RPG Series

So, Mac thought the GPD should do a top ten RGP series list, so why not ask all of you? What's you're favorite RPG series? What ones should be on the list? What ones shouldn't be?

And for the record, a series has to be 3 games or more. So Chrono and KoToR are nixed from the list.

My Choice so far

Final Fantasy
Dragon Quest
XenoSaga (Xeno Gears)
Paper Mario (Mario RPG and Super Paper Mario included)
Persona
Disgaea

Feel free to add to this list.

Shadow Hearts.

One of the better combat-systems in my opinion (the Judgment Ring), a solid cast of likable characters (including the protagonist who actually does try to break down the door before going to go find the key), and story/dialog that covers the full spectrum of "made me laugh out loud" to "made me mist up."

Shadow Hearts. Seriously.

I'll add for consideration

The Dark Cloud Games. (Gets to three if you count Rogue Galaxy or the recently announced Dark Cloud 3)
Atelier Iris
Fallout (assuming Western style is included)
The Elder Scrolls (as above)
The Soul Blazer/ Illusion of Gaia/Terranigma series.
Tales of Whatever
I can't believe you guys forgot Mother? I mean I'm not a huge fan of it, but almost everyone else here seems to be, so I'm kind of surprised I'm first.

Also if we're counting Persona on it's own I'll add mainline Shin Megami Tensei (That is SMT 1, 2, iF and Nocturne).

Agree with all of this and would like to add it has hard gay wrestling vampires and Brazilian ninjas among other absurdities as playable characters.

I think Mac forgot it on purpose. *shakes fist*

Dragon Quest is the last standing bastion of traditional JRPG gameplay, so that one.

Final Fantasy is the most whored franchise since Mega Man stopped being popular.

Pokémon. I mean, it's just the most popular JRPG franchise of all time. The only series that beats it in sales and ubiquity is Mario.

MOTHER/EarthBound for its sad legendary history outside of Japan (it also helps that it is really well-written).

I hear Fallout is popular with the WRPG fans. That, I guess. I don't know much about the genre. I don't particularly like those type of games, but Japanese RPGs are not the only kind of RPGs around.

I almost wanted to say fire emblem, then I remembered that it was turn-based strategy =/

Most of the obvious ones have been said, but I (might get flak for this) personally thinks Kingdom Hearts should be up there too (KH1, 2, CoM, any others I may not know about/final mixes)

Oh, and <3 Shiki too RT. *hugs your avatar*

Any of the "Tales of" series.

Anything related Dragon Quest. Cause Damn.

Pokémon, cause it's popular.

More to come later!

I think it's safe to seperate Shin Megami Tensei and Persona because, despite having the same roots, they really have evolved seperately of each other. So, my list, in alphabetical order:

Dragon Quest
Fallout
Might & Magic
Persona
Phantasy Star
Shin Megami Tensei
Shadow Hearts
Super Mario RPG/Mario & Luigi/Paper Mario
Ultima
Wild Arms

Final Fantasy is disqualified for jumping the shark so hard it also cleared a blue whale. Lengthwise. And then susequently trying to ram the whale down your throat as the greatest thing it's ever done ever.

Not exactly a series but I immensely enjoyed all games made within the Infinity Engine. (Baldurs Gate, Icewind Dale, Planescape etc)

Knights of the Old Republic can also have a place in my list!

Front Mission was pretty cool (Especially 3!)

Panzer Dragoon gets to be in here just for Panzer Dragoon Saga which is one of my favourite RPG's even if the rest are all predominantly shooters!
