This thread now has bad design.
|
You wanna know bad design? The dungeons in FF1 that had a random encounter every fucking step.
|
No, see, after a couple of decades of nostalgia, that's not "bad design", that's "challenging gameplay".
|
There's also the fact that gaming, at that point, was still kind of at the adolescent stage. The most that Squaresoft had to work with on Final Fantasy was inspiration from second edition DND (I believe, anyway, don't quote me on that).

In less flowerpenis related discussion, how bout the Great Fox in Star Fox?
I mean, giant wings? For a SPACESHIP?! Don't make no sense. LEast the ARwings had the sense to have wings that would fold back out of the way so they weren't such big targets in space flight and it made sense when you were in the atmosphere as they'd fold out for you. But the Great Fox looks like a giant target with those wings, especially in asteroid fields. |
You don't see the genius in that? Enemies are too busy attacking extraneous wings to do any damage to the useful parts of the ship before the Arwings take them out. They're supposed to be a giant target.

No. You fought a boss at the end of the previous level, walked through a door like you were going into a base, and then you start the next level fighting near-Metroid-esque monsters on the way to the heart of.. whatever the fuck is living on that island. They were never clear about it, it was abrupt, and it was plain retarded. Quote:
The magic system was odd in general, and you'll notice that NO other Zelda game since has used it. Hopping dudes in dungeons = funny, but really stupid The overworld encounter system was stupid. Scaling and perspective in nearly all towns, mostly the houses I haven't played the game in a while to remember other nuances that bugged me. |
I loved Zelda 2 so I'm just gonna skip that.

Maybe G-Diffusers are made of magic. |
Hey, the ship has to fly in both space and in atmosphere, so maybe the wings do have some use. You'll notice the ship has no real heavy thrusters on it's underside for take off, and having foldable wings for a ship of that size would be improbable.
Other starships, do not possess wings, but the Great Fox is smaller than say, the Enterprise, and technically a hunk of junk even in Star Fox 64. |
