First video of Metroid Prime remake

So tempting to write "Wiimake" in the title instead.

It looks like it will play exactly like Corruption, which is not bad at all. As someone who never actually owned the GCN release, I'm interested. I thought the level design was miles better than in the previously mentioned game, as it emphasised exploration over actual fighting. I'm just waiting for confirmation on new features before I decide to jump on this one.

Is anyone who played the original one going to buy it?

Yes, I'm aware of the hypocrisy.

Moogle0119 02-04-2009 05:28 PM

The only new things seemed to be two of the bosses near the end of the trailer, something with pincers and the big enemy with glowing blue body parts. From what I could see of the levels I recognized a lot of it from the original GCN version so it doesn't seem like the levels have been reworked. Maybe just some optional hidden bosses or a new area?

Do you mean Ridley and the Omega Pirate? I'm almost sure those two were in the original release. The Pikmin remake has new features (being able to return to any day you want, for example), and I'd heard rumours that Retro was going to implement a Kraid boss fight, but don't take my word for that last piece of information.

It's going to be about twenty-five bucks in the US if you make a rough calculation with the Japanese price, by the way.

I got Prime, I'll stick with it.

Still, kinda nifty.

Lost in Time 02-04-2009 05:54 PM

Eh, fighting Kraid would be pretty cool, but I had my own copy of Prime, I don't see any need to dip 25 dollars into a game that I already own. I mean there can't be much more of a graphical enhancement than Prime already had, can there? (I haven't seen the trailer yet, on dial-up for the time being.)

It isn't really - keep in mind the Wii is a Gamecube plus one.

Regulus Tera 02-04-2009 06:00 PM

Graphics-wise the only enhancement is 16:9 support, so you're probably right in not dipping into it.

No, the meme says the Wii is two GameCubes duct-taped together. Goddammit the English language confuzzles me. Sorry DMD.

Mirai Gen 02-04-2009 06:02 PM

Ah yes, silly me.

DMD?! It's Mirai Gen, right? Mirai Gen, the name he's always had that he never changed. You all see it, right? I'm not crazy!

That aside, I guess they're using + for beam switching. I liked how visors worked in Corruption, so I bet switching weapons like that wold also feel nice. Too bad I already own the games and can't justify buying a new version. I can't justify buying new games, though, so I might be a little... unimportant to that argument.

Mirai Gen 02-04-2009 06:54 PM

Don't mind RT, I changed my name to get away from Mirai and he actually liked it. But holy shit look, the topic!

I hope there's no hold-1-And-Wave-In-Direction for visor switching now...that would be a bit of a pain.
