The end of All Things: The Secret Stash of Sam Walton
Scott was shivering, he did that alot now. He looked into his new friend's eyes. It had been three days since the world ended. They had found some more survivors, but were badly in need of food and shelter. They kept warm as best the could by burning the wood they found. Scott held his torch. Soon he'd need to make another.
"I think this used to be the super walmart. We might be able to salvage some food." He said as he pointed at a field of concrete debris, wood and wrecked cars. The city all looked the same now. He kicked a stone to the side and he heard a groan. The debris shifted and Scott fell into the dark. "SHIIiiiit!" Scott cursed. |
"Looks like this really was a Walmart! Ha ha ha! Oh wow I just...that was a horrible joke, wasn't it?" Dante looked around to his newfound buddies. "Well, someone get the rope. I'll help pull him out."
|
"No need" Scott called back. "You guys need to see this."
|
Say what?
Be inquired, peering over the edge as he pulled the hood tight on his sweatshirt |
"Let's just say I hit the jackpot."
|
"What'd ya find?" yelled Josh down into the hole. A bandaged Swan peered down into the darkness.
|
"I'm standing in the produce aisle of Walmart. The vegetables are in good condition same with the bread, I can't make much more about the store though, It seems to be in good order though. I'm going to do some exploring. Just get your asses down here."
Jen looked at Josh. "I think we should listen to him." Brian was busy trying to light a cigarette. |
"How far down are you?" asked Josh.
|
There was no answer. "Outta my way, wussy." Jen said. She tied the rope to a concrete pylon. She threw the other end down into the hole. She could see his torch as soon as she touched bottom. The chamber was twenty feet down The hole was directly over some mashed tomatoes. Obviously mashed by a falling youth. His torch was sticking into the end of the produce island like a beacon. She picked up the torch, but in the flickering fire light could not see Scott. The chamber, which had been a walmart was large but not in the box shape it had previously been. There were sections of collapsed roofing and destruction, but there were a lot of sections still in good order.
"Scott" she called. There was no answer. |
Kia followed Jen down the rope. "Hey, where did Scott go?" She wondered, seeing his torch, but no Scott. After Jen called, getting no answer, Kia spoke up, "Maybe he went ahead to find some food?" She guessed, but she couldn't figure out why he wasn't responding.
