French 8-Bit Theater
Since Brian Clevinger can't read my e-mails, or can't reply to them, I say this here.
What I want to do is to translate 8-Bit Theater in French, because I think non-english-speaking-French-people shouldn't been unaware of the existence of this wonderful comic. What I want to do by coming here is to ask Brian Clevinger if he agrees to let me translate his comic and post it on a forum created to host it. So, this thread is mainly destined to Brian Clevinger, but if you want to react (And I'm sure you want) it won't cause any problem, or so I think... Sephiel. |
You're in for what approaches a full-time job if you want to get this done even remotely quickly.

I won't do this quickly, I'm not mad. Or maybe I am. If I am allowed to do the translating job, I'll first translate something like 30 comics, release 2 of them per week, and continue translating the comics.
To have something to compare with, you can think about the Advance Wars sprite comic Totally Flaked being translated by two people. Also, I'll have three friends to work with, to make a team of four, two who do the writing, and two others to do the graphic job. So, I think it won't be done quickly, not even at a normal pace, but it will be done. Unless the two who do the graphic job disappear, which will make me alone with a lot of .txt files. But it won't happen, and the translating can be done. Sephiel. |
Are you sure that French people really speak French? I have a theory that they actually speak Spanish, and that French is just a huge inside joke on the rest of the world (particularly on students with foreign language requirements).

Okay, now that sounds like a good setup. I've tried my luck at this myself but translating and graphics work is, as you obviously recognized from the start, too much for one. Two is good, four is even better.
... 2 per week is, of course, still somewhere in the region of ten years. That's pretty hefty, but of course maybe you'd get quicker along the line. In my experience the graphics work absolutely is the bottleneck, and a damn tight one at that. Replacing text in speech bubbles already takes longer than you'd expect, God help you once sound effects and things like Vilbert's shaded bubbles start popping up on a regular basis. Find a way to speed up the graphics work and things start to look more realistic. Hmm. Still got my own translation project in the back of my head. Anyway, best of luck with this. |
Many people have approached me about translating the comic over the years. I used to endorse them, but after a month everyone always gets bored of it or life makes them too busy to continue.
So, now I just don't bother. Sorry! |
Mais... mais j'aime les epees!
