Ever had an "Oh god get me out of here!" moment?
Title's pretty self-explanatory, but I'll delve a little more into what I mean. Have you ever wished with every fiber of your being that you can teleport as far away as you can from where you currently are? It could be for a variety of reasons: you just humiliated yourself in front a bunch of people, you desperately want to get away from the people you are with, or you just happened to find yourself in downtown Oakland. We all must have at least had this experience once and for me, it just happened a few hours ago.
So I was going with a few of my roommates to a nearby sports bar (jonesin' for some hot wings). We get our orders and end up sharing a table with some nerdy looking dude. Nothing seems out of place until one of my roomie's points to a table with a bunch of older men clustered around two laptops (only the screen of one of them is visible) and says, "Hey. Check out those guys over there." It seems a bit weird, but whatever, their table they can do whatever they want. So I ask him what's the big deal and he says, "Look at what's on the screen." I look at the screen and then I start thinking, "Hey why is he watching a bunch of people in animal costumes?.... OH GOD THEY ARE ALL FUCKING FURRIES!" At first, it freaked me out that a bunch of old dudes happen to be furries, but then it was a bit amusing.... That was until I looked at the people at the table next to me. Something catches my eye there. I look down and I see a fake raccoon tail, being worn by the chick at the other table... I look at the table and see one of the people there drawing detailed sketches of guess what? animals with another one admiring it ("It looks just like Skrit from Ice Age!"). Oooooooookay this cannot be coincidence. Furries don't just happen to appear in groups like this. I let my two roomies know of this unsettling development and as I turned back to the other table again, I noticed yet another unsettling development. The guy who is sitting at the same table as us has a couple of pages in front of him and on those pages are a bunch of anime cats.... HALF THE PEOPLE HERE ARE FURRIES. WE ARE EATING DINNER WITH A GODAMMED FURRY CONVENTION!!! On the inside, this is basically how I felt. I tell my roomies in the quietest yell, "Guys, let's get the fuck out of here... Now." Both of them don't want to because one of them finds this too funny and the other isn't finished with his fries. I tell them to go fuck themselves and rush them both out in two minutes, freaked the fuck out. Why did I react like I did? Mainly, because of how sudden it was. Furries I assumed where too busy plaguing DeviantArt (actually that statement is redundant) and living in their mom's basement to eat out in groups like this. It was too much for me to take that so many people around us were furries and I didn't even notice until it was too late..... So anybody else cares to share?
