After that, Xykon came down, mocked Redcloak a lot, and then was like "now zombie him up, bitch."

At this point in the story, Redcloak had pretty much fully acknowledged that Xykon was way more evil than he could handle, and that teaming with him had been the worst idea ever.

Wrong. Redcloak ditched Xykon, went off to find Righteye who had already ditched Xykon and raised a family (wife, two sons, daughter) in a peaceful goblin village that coexisted with humans. Redcloak found the MitD and stole him from a circus, but eventually decided to stay in the village with Righteye rather than go for the Plan, seeing that he could help Goblinkind another way. Xykon shows up with ogres, press gangs the village and burns it. Years later, Xykon vs. Dorukan, we find out Righteye's family died against adventurers while Xykon laughed at the sight of them dying. Righteye attempts to involve Redcloak in his assassination attempt, Redcloak refuses because he can't risk Xykon surviving and massacring the goblins. Righteye correctly deduces the reason he can't ditch Xykon is because if Redcloak does, he's admitting he's responsible for all the deaths Xykon caused (goblin wise, he couldn't give two shits about elves/humans. Righteye attempts to kill Xykon. Redcloak disintegrates him. Xykon wins, orders Redcloak to zombify Righteye, Redcloak refuses and lies about his cause of death. Xykon lets Redcloak know that he a) knew what Righteye planned and had prepared it so his effort alone was worthless, b) knew Righteye's realization about Redcloak anyway and c) knew his phylactery was forever safe with him because he was too much of a bitch to ever admit his responsibility. Redcloak zombifies Righteye, and moves into the castle.

Wrong.
Uh... no. That's what actually happened. You gave a more complete explanation of Redcloak's motivations as explained by Xykon afterward, whereas I gave an abridged explanation of the actual event.

But hell, if you want, I can give a play by play:

Right Eye comes to Redcloak while Xykon is fighting Dorukon's horde of celestials. Right Eye tells Redcloak his plan, Redcloak freaks out and tries to change his mind. They have a debate over "The Plan," and Redcloak's respect for his own people, then Right Eye flies up to attack Xykon. Redcloak disintegrates Right Eye. Xykon wins the battle in truly awesome fashion, then flies down and tells Redcloak to zombify Right Eye. Redcloak lies about how Right Eye died, Xykon goes into a long explanation about how Redcloak is a giant bitch who will never rebel because then he'd have to face the fact that he killed his own brother for no reason. Redcloak frantically tries to deny it, but finally realises it's true, and does as Xykon says, after Xykon calls him a bitch. Also Redcloak wrecks MitD's tacos.

So, are we going to need a separate Erfworld thread now that Book 1 is done? 'Cause it's too cool to stop discussing because of a domain shift.

That part is totally right, I made a mistake and forgot to cut to the part where you mentioned his family was being held hostage, and was already dead by that point.

In honor of Parson's one uncensored cuss word, I can only say "Holy shit."

O-Chul's in trouble :O

Osterbaum 05-26-2009 09:59 AM

Would've been a bit too easy if he had been able to destroy the phylactery just like that. Although if he's not dead yet, then I suppose there is a slight chance.

"Hands off the bling, Scarface!"

Xykon is awesome.

Unless anyone objects I'm gonna start editing mirrored comics into the respective "comic's up" post. Seems the most convenient in regards to spoilers and such. The site's server issues have apparently been sorted out, though.

Until I re-read the title ("It probably squeaks, too") I thought Burlew followed some weird interpretation of Invisibility where even opening a door would end the effect, but then I realized it's just about the chance of Xykon spotting the opening door. Still, this seems like a situation where you'd take the risk.

Since I seem to be on rules explanation duty: Meteor Swarm does anywhere from 8-48 points of damage, Maximized Lightning Bolt 60. 30 if he made his Reflex save but those aren't a paladin's strong point. I think there goes O-Chul.

Well, his eyes didn't become crosses...
