Idea for a new kind of RP, "One-Shot" RPs.

I don't have any serious ideas of how to implement it, this whole thing came from idle musings, but I had a new idea for a sort of "One-Shot" RP. I've noticed that in between good RPs that everyone gets into there can be lots of dead space of semi-popular RPs or no RPs at all going on. Well, during a slow day, I mused it would be fun to play a short RP just to pass the time, but not to really put a lot of time and effort into, thus the idea for a "One-Shot" RP.

The basic idea, is that the entire RP would revolve around one small conflict that could be resolved in 1-3 chapters. Sample ideas would be like being in the old west, the group is battling robbers attempting to rob a train. The RP would end with the successful, or unsuccessul rescue of the train. Perhaps we could set these up as short PvP or PvNPC battles with rules in place to judge how it would go. So there could be 3 pre-made slots for villians, and 4 pre-made slots for good-guys and the first people into these slots would get them.

The RP would be easy to resolve, as in one battle, or one investigation, or one escape, or one whatever, and the RP ends. Other scenarios could be trying to escape an Indiana Jones-esqe temple with traps and such in it, or a space ship has been infested with aliens and you need to get off it, or a mad cult has taken over a building, and you are sent in to stop them. Basically they are easy to make, easy to manage, and hopefully short enough to be resolved by the RPers, but long enough to take up dead space between major RPs that have been more well thought out and better planned then these "Quicky" RPs.

Any thoughts on this? Is it an interesting idea, or crazy ramblings?

It is a truely unique idea. it's just crazy enough to work!
I say you should try it out, just to see how far it goes/ how popular the concept becomes.

Personally, I think this may actually turn out better than the longer ones. Especially since if they kind of sputter out and die, it's no big deal, because it's easy to make another one.

It seems like it could almost be a long one, but instead of one continuous plot, a bunch of unrelated (mis)adventures of pretty much the same people posting. Seems fun to me either way!

It could also be good to give the noobs experience before joining major long term RP's.

Heh, part of the idea came from my realizing the massive effort going into the WoD RP, yet the knowledge that 99% of RPs don't even make it to the end. However, I could make something like this in a day or two most likely without too much trouble.

Seems like another good application. Each mission is independant, but easy to make, and with a generally quick resolution. A mission wouldn't be too much harder to make then the idea for the whole RP...

FZ, you're a genius!

Thank you, I try. When I stop being lazy and actually apply myself, I think up all sorts of random ideas that would be easier to implement in a "One-Shot" RP format instead of a massive story. Perhaps I will give one a try before I get WoD off the ground to see if it is as easy as I'm planning.

Well, if (and when) you start this, I wanna reserve a spot! I don't care which side... if you need more good guys, I'll be one, same goes for bad guys.

I think it'd also be a great way for people who want to GM a RP, but want some experience first.

A one-shot RP would ease their burdens, and if things go wrong, then a whole lot of time isnt wasted by everyone.
