I got the Red ring of death...am i under warranty?

Hey guys i bought my Xbox a few years back and i heard they extended the warranty. how do i check if im under warranty with my xbox?

First rule of thumb. You aren't under warranty. You just plain won't be. They'll charge you about $70 at base for repairs, up to $150 tops, usually.

Tough luck on the RRoD though. Sorry.

so its ether sending it in. or Going to a game stop and get a newone and keep my hard drive...THIS SUCKS!

$150 is not something I'd heard of. As I understood it, it's a $90 charge that includes shipping and covers any repairs if you're not under warrently. All it cost me, and I actually got about $30 refunded because it wasn't a big repair.

They ask you to remove the HD from the side of the 360 before you mail it in, btw. The most you lose is money equal to less then the value of a good, like-new used 360 and POSSIBLY the liscence tags for any DLC, which you can get back in a short and painless process that they outline in a sheet they send back with your console.

Check with the site first, or call them.

My friend bought a 360 at launch and it RRoD'd last week. Microsoft had it back to him in 6 days, at no charge.

I bought a Jasper unit not a year ago, it RRoD'd, they said it would cost me $129 because it was an "E-74" Redring error. Similar stories abound from everyone.

There's a few good stories but a thousand more horror stories.

hmmm really?...I'll call them later. Thanks everyone for all the advice. i just hope they will do it for free. My cash flow has been in a drought lately.

It does depend on the type of red ring you got, but the most common "three" (also the one I got), Microsoft has extended the warranty from one year to three. It means if you bought a machine at launch and get the errors covered by the extended warranty, you're just barely covered so send it in right away.

Most of this process can be handled rather care-free and online through their Support site, but like most corporations if you yell at them on the phone for long enough you might be entitled to special treatment, too.

I got the 3 type. i did get the four type along time ago but the manual said it was because of a power surge/power outage (it was because my mom tripped over my power cord...i have since moved it to another plug behind very very heavy bookshelves)
i looked the 3 type online. its the most costly one. the one where the cpu/motherboard was overheated and it gets hair line cracks on it. or something of that nature.

Oh and i bought mine november 17 2006. 2 days before the wii came out (i heard that in all stores around here had more reservations then there was wiis so i just bought a xbox out of annoyance and impatience)
so im good for sending it in! YEY!
thanks guys!

I got a free one, it was whichever one was probably due to fucked up solder joints etc.

Got it back in less than a week.

Edit: This was last fall, and I bought mine on launch day.
