Tomb Raider: Crystal Chronicals: Colon Cancer: SE is getting Eidos for reals.

They're apparently letting Eidos be independent as a developer, but we'll see.

But yeah, I can only imagine the IP horrors this will create. :gonk:

Armageddon... The movie game II

This and the recent set-up of their western development studio are interesting. Square Enix has outsourced a shitload of titles this generation. It will be nice to see games rolling out from the factory again.

I don't know why you'd have to imagine; they already made FFX-2.

Materia Raider: You play FFVII's Yuffie, equipped with windmill shuriken and ninja skills, setting out to raid tomb and house alike, collecting materia and, with it, special abilities to aid in your action platforming adventure.

Still far less bad than FFX-2.

In fact shit, that sounds kind of awesome.

... that sounds rather interesting, actually.
Assuming they execute it properly.

EDIT: Honestly, I don't see the bad thing here.
One of the biggest critiques I hear is that Square Enix does the same thing over and over. Just in a different coating.
Whenever they do something different it's either hit or miss.
Acquiring Eidos may give them the opportunity to actually do something different and have it work.

Jagos 03-29-2009 08:53 AM

This is Square, they outsource "execution" for $500 an hour.

Except you know Square would try and force it to work as part of the Gackt Trilogy, which would now be composed of Crisis Core, Dirge of Cerberus, and Materia Raider. Add into that Tomb Raider's camera, which I hear is still pretty terrible, and it just wouldn't live up to the awesome.

If they were to do it right, the plot would be that Yuffie is just running amok stealing materia, and nothing else. The gameplay would be Tenchu meets Tomb Raider meets Ninja Gaiden. As long as they did this, it would be the BEST GAME EVER and put every other part of the FFVII Compilation to shame, especially the original.

....oh, god. Now I've got Yuna Raider ideas in my head.

Even as someone who didn't think X-2 didn't blow chunks, the above idea makes me question my sanity.

The Yuffie idea makes me want to play some PS1 Tenchu, again, though.
