Zoo!
When was the last time you went to the zoo? Me? Oh I went yesterday and we had a grand time.
Except for the rain! Seriously it makes looking at dumb animals do crazy things because they're locked in a cage like 50% less fun. I scared a monkey, but I didn't mean to! He just wasn't paying attention and I had my face pressed against the glass like a moron so when he turned around he was like "HOLY GOD ERRGH!" And then proceeded to calmly scrape his toy seashell on the ground. Anyway, Zoos are pretty fun! I feel bad for the animals who go nuts in captivity (This polar bear was just walking forward and backward all day) but most of them seem fairly content and they're fun to watch. And let me just put out there that Elephants are HUGE. |
I went to a safari thingy in January. But a zoo? Uh. Two, maybe three years ago. My city doesn't even have a zoo.

No, I don't now what I'm saying by posting this image. Mike and I keep saying we're going to go to the zoo in town so that Mike can annoy people with his knowledge of biology, but we still haven't. We even have a coupon that gets, like, four people in for ten bucks. We need to get on that before it expires. |
It has been like.. over 15 years since the last time i was at a Zoo. I get better close-ups on Discovery and National Geographic!
Am i a bad person for it? |

Seeing animals like that close up is totally worth it, even if they're bored as hell.

A few months ago. There was a small group of high school-age kids next to a fountain. In the fountain there were some free-roaming pelicans who took it upon themselves to steal and eat one kid's homework. I could have paid the ticket price just for watching that and I'd still have felt like I ripped the zoo off.

I went to a madass aviary last year where you were climbing through at canopy hieght to see all these crazy foreign birds (our local birds are all way too dumb to know how to fly).
But haven't been to a zoo in years. Would like to go especially as zoos are getting nicer and nicer for animals with big ass habitats and less cagey cages. |
Oh that was the other thing that sucked! They were doing construction on a lot of the cool habitats ... although they are building a whole section for African predetors so apparently they're getting some lions and cheetahs this summer.
The Zoo had some pretty good funding a few years ago and then they hit a pretty bad slump and things were looking kinda frumpy, but now it seems like theyre on the upswing again. |
It was sooooooooooooo coooooooooooold. A lot of the big cats were huddled in their dens or inside heated areas because it was rainy and windy so we didn't see them. And there were almost no people there. All the employees and volunteers looked frozen and bored out of their minds.
But the black bears were out romping and having fun which was really cute. |
