Genius: The Transgression Interest?

So I was 'random paging' through TVTropes and I stumble upon this page describing an RP system where players are mad scientists. So I follow the link to the page containing the rulebook and spent a few days kind of getting lost in the charmingly bizarre little world contained therein.

Anybody up for getting a PBP game going? It's got the rules in place for making everything from time machines to death stars to flying venus fly traps. Could be a fun.

While that sounds like the most awesome setting ever, explain the acronym 'PBP'.

Play By Post, i.e. play the game on this forum.

Viridis 04-04-2009 07:38 PM

Oh, then sure. I wish to be included in this mad science.

Edit: Reading about the Wonders (mad scientist devices powered less by physics and more by what amounts to pure, unleaded science fuel) is awesome.

Examples:
Powered Battle Suit with Integral Exoskeletal Rig and Jet Pack
Doom Cannon
Rocket Boots
Totally Gnarly Future Car with All Sorts of Kickin' Integral Stuff

Yeah, sorry if that wasn't clear, reading over that post again I'm seriously wondering if somebody clubbed me during the middle of it ("Could be a fun"?)

Also, to Viridis and whoever else might be reading, would it be more fun to do this all stats-and-dice as written, or might it just be better to free-form it around the world presented in the text? Maybe go with a soft-stat system like Azisien uses for Stradia to give a sense of how good you are making Wonders without the hassle of having to roll all the time? I just don't know if making a workable system like that would be easier or just another hassle.

Thoughts?

I would possibly be interested in this.

I have next to no experience in pen and paper RPGs, except watching a game of RIFTS being played, so whichever you think would work best/be the most fun.

I'd say stats-and-dice, but have nothing really to back that up with as opposed to any other method.

Edit: How many people interested do you think is enough to start? The book talks about 'Collaboratives,' which are groups of three to ten sharing a laboratory, resources. Think that would be a good start?

Lets do freeform. I think that'd be the better of the two

Relm Zephyrous 04-06-2009 10:11 PM

Been thinking about it, and I have a decent idea formed. I think that a soft stat form would work a little bit better than outright freeform, if only to order things a little, but full-on die rolling and applying stats to every little thing, not so much.

On another note, as a curiosity I've had with this form of system for a while, and I've never really been able to figure out a straight answer for. What would happen to a person if they were a psychopath upon breakthrough?

Overlord Kovina 04-06-2009 10:39 PM

How many people would we need to get this rolling? Is there a required number?
