As the owner of the IP, Tecmo feels very unfortunate that the fans of the series in North America will not have a chance to play the game, but respects the final decision made by Nintendo of America."

Note that Nintendo of Europe is already advertising the game.

So yeah, another FUCK NINTENDO OF AMERICA thread.

But... But RT, it's a horror game! What would Nintendo do if it scared some little kid or grandmother? Or what if it offended somebody? We can't let people get offended!

Snrkt.
Hahahahaha!
All you DO is off-TH-TH-TH-THAT'S ALL FOLKS!

Nah, I'm just kidding ya.
It seems a bit weird that they wouldn't publish it. Have they given a statement on why it isn't published in the US by NoA?

Bells 04-08-2009 12:24 PM

Yeah!
Specially since fatal frame is waaaaaaaaaaaay much more violent and offensive than Madworld, Manhunt 2, no more heroes or Resident Evil 4... Nintendo of America is protecting YOU

It's probably not being published on the US due to "bad sale predictions"

Kim 04-08-2009 12:26 PM

I think NoA said that was something up to Tecmo, and only recently did Tecmo make the announcement that, no, it was Nintendo's decision, and Tecmo would prefer to bring it to the US.

I never thought I'd end up having to import the game from Europe.

Bells 04-08-2009 12:30 PM

uuuh... big problem for some people (not all). Fatal Frame 4 will be PAL, and USA wii is NTSC... those with System version above 3.2/3.3 will have a hard time playing this.

Once again, Nintendo invites it's customers to rape their console just a tidbit more...

The difference here is that those games were published by third parties. The whole reason Fatal Frame IV is a Wii exclusive to begin with was that NCL bought the worldwide publishing rights a few years ago. It's why it's so maddening to see NoA not wanting to do anything with the franchise.

If Tecmo wanted to publish the game by themselves here, they'd have to rebuy the publishing rights from Nintendo and then pay for a localisation despite the fact that Nintendo of Europe would have already done the translation. They would also have to remove a ton of the cool shit, like the Luigi, Samus, and Captain Falcon costumes.

I gotta find the specific link, but I remember reading Fatal Frame IV is the best-selling Fatal Frame in Japan.

Didn't Suda 51 do Fatal Frame IV?

So yes.

Kim 04-08-2009 03:31 PM

But, I was under the impression that Suda had been cursed by a Haitian witch doctor that none of his games would sell well in Japan.
