It has changed remarkably, yeah. Psychic stopped being the gamebreaker a looooong time ago.

I'd go straight for Sableye and never look back.

Clearly, I have been playing the wrong kind of MMO.

Which is a good thing, apparently. Don't want to need help from 30 people to get something decent.

Gyms.

I don't know how the mechanic would work out (three challengers per day or something?), but the chance to make your own Pokemon Gym and be a Gym Leader would be very cool to me. It could be like a guild system or something. I already know what gym type I would use, too. <_<

My problem with the Gym idea is a personal one, in the matter of I would get totally just be that guy who has to theme his gym, leading to lots of failing on my part when anyone with half a brain and basic pattern identification waltzes in. I'd probably also be a Lt. Surge grade asshole about actually reaching me.

They should exist. They should be able to be fought, for items or something, but not caught.

Summon monsters. By expending all the PP from a Pokemon of the same type and tossing a special item into the air to verbally summon and then appease them, they fight for you for the duration of one battle in said other Pokemon's place.

Plus Oak is like 100 years old now and I'm pretty damn sure he isn't wearing glasses, I don't think the guy can really see.

The rarity of event legendaries and such may be rectified with Platinum. They do the events online, so if you have access to the internet, you have access to the Pokémon.

Well dragon straight maybe isn't the best type but, and this could launch into an endless debate, but with the 400ish Pokemon nowadays there's a dual type dragon who isn't even necessarily legendary with ridiculous stats.

I guess what I'm getting at is for a potential MMO, there would be such mind-boggling balance issues I'm sure it's why developers haven't done it. One thing they could do is arrange the entire Pokemon list by base stats from high to low and basically just eliminate the top 40 or 50 from ever being captured by players. That'd help with the balance.

As a note, often balance in MMOs is one of those things that developers do to keep the game consistently interesting.

This isn't even anything new - just look at the entire scope of World of Warcraft, all SOE games, and City of Heroes.

Really the tremendous amount of balance required to make the game fair is more reason to go ahead and make one.

Naturally of course Nintendo would never do it.

yeah!

Jagos 04-11-2009 06:32 PM

... okay?

So you have no opinion on Pokemon and want to add to your post count Marker?
