I find the act of trying to answer unanswerable questions pointless, and that's the only use of philosophy that I feel isn't just a lazy excuse to not properly answer an answerable question through directed inquiry and experimentation. I especially dislike moral philosophy. We'll begin by making the assumption that there actually is some quality of matter or energy or, hell, just abstract concepts like actions or ideas. What effect does the morality of some matter/energy/action/idea have on the properties or results of said matter/energy/action/idea? Can we, in any way, detect morality? The answers to these questions are "nothing" and "no," even assuming that, in this world right now, there is such a quality as morality. So, if it's unobservable and effects nothing, even if it's real, how much does it matter? Is it worth time studying morality in and of itself.

You just summed up one of the main points of The Problems of Philosophy by Bertrand Russell.

Meta-physics can be fickle at times; Political and other applied Philosophies is where it's at.

I've never read into great detail about Eastern Philosophies. Has anyone before and if so would they mind giving highlights or suggested readings?

I'm not very surprised by this, as I have no illusions of my point being a very complex one or a very hard one to reach, even using basic "premise, premise, premise, conclusion" logic.

My distaste stated, I do enjoy some philosophy books. The more personal ones are fun trips through the kind of things that make some people tick. The book just needs a strong, personal connection with the author.
