If you think that, you need to gain some weight and go to a gym. My 11 year old sister could shoot a .22 all day and have a sore shoulder.

The only reason why Tom Cruise and company were not brutally sodomized in that movie was because the bad guy made a horrible decision (sending half of the force to see what happened). Even then, for all of their strategy, timing, skill, and training, the samuri took heavy losses.
And then, the samuri lost. Hard.
Next: If you have a katana in a narrow hall (as per your example)...you'd be a horrible disadvantage. This is because you have a four foot long sword in a hallway thats 8 feet wide and 10 feet tall. 2/3 of your effort will be directed into not sticking your sword in a wall. The other third will be dedicated to getting shot several times because you walked towards someone with a gun out.
And even if you snuck up on someone, a knife would be a better choice. A knife is more manuverable, quieter, easier to use, and will cause a clearner death than a sword.
I just needed to get that out of my system. I'm better now.
