Kill. Liquid metal moving faster than the speed of sound would still push straight through him. A jedi could just stop the bullets all neo style, though, and they wouldn't be expecting it to deflect unless they were a low rank. Jedi can see a few seconds into the future, which is why they're able to parry blaster bolts at all.

Edit: Stealthy ninja would win. However, the point of this is guns vrs. swords. Now we're at the point where we have to give the sword wielder special advantages like complete surprise or full swat riot gear... I think it's pretty obvious that the gun is the more deadly weapon by now.

Of course, this is getting completely off topic, and even then guns can kill Jedi (Jango killed that one guy, Boba kills the black guy).

I think we all agree guns>swords unless sword guy is given many, many advantages.

Also, that assassin would be better if he had a silenced pistol over a sword.

Dragon Knight 04-27-2004 08:31 PM

only grudgingly, because guns are in essence more efficient, but I still like swords better. and i think using a sword is cooler, but this is based on stats not opinions, or my love of swords would rule the day *insert manical laughter here*

IHateMakingNames 04-27-2004 08:36 PM

Shotguns are cooler then swords. An automatic shotgun clearing out an entire room in a couple of seconds is cooler then any crappy sword thing, or a sawed off 8 gauge shotgun blowing holes in this is better then wimpy little cuts.

Hear Hear, IHMN.

Dragon Knight 04-27-2004 08:50 PM

I agree that taking out a room single handed is cool, but my opinion is not changed for I am stubborness incarate and only I can change it, which I don't plan on doing. and now i bid you *insert fancy good-bye term that I am not sure how to spell that I think is French*

Basically this srugment comes down to this; in most situations a gun is better than a sword. However, if one were forced to fight in close, like a massive brawl , the sword as a disticnt advanatage. If someone is thrown into you gun while who hold it chances are that even if it goes off it will be stripped from your hand. If someone falls into holding and you holding any kind of sword you can usually keep hold of the sword or simply deflect or cut off the aproaching body part. Also, ammo would be a problem. Even in a one on one fight if the gun guy runs out of ammo because the sword guy is smart and stays far away and ducks friom cover to cover its pretty much over for the gun guy. I don't care who you are you can't carry unlimited gun ammo. Also, depending on the gun used the sword guy could have time to strike during reloading. I guess what I am trying to say is that the best possible fighter would use a decent semi-auto pistol with a sword kind of like a side arm.

I would much rather have a SAR21 assault rifle than a zweihander, thank you very much. Swords may be cooler (hardly) but remember, in the battle between the rapier and the battleaxe, the last man standing is the guy with the AK.

Oh, and pretty much everything krylo said.

EDIT: The best possible fighter would pick his opponent off from 2 miles away with concentrated artillery fire in a 100x100 meter square, then send in helicopter gunships with rocket pods and autocannon to kill the survivors. As much as possible, you want to kill the other guy befoe he does the same to you. Guns do that best.

IHateMakingNames 04-27-2004 11:24 PM

I rather have more pistols for a side arms then a sword.

As for staying away or taking cover, depending on how far away the sword guy is, guns can be reloaded before the sword guy can close the distance. Some pistols only take a couple seconds to reload, and the sword guy either is very far for the gun guy to be missing, or while taking cover wouldn't come out right when the shooting stops (Incase the gun guy is just waiting).

Or, if the guy is taking cover, just save some bullets and circle around while getting closer so you can shot the guy.

Dante 04-27-2004 11:28 PM

I must also add that there was once a case where two guys emptied the magazines of their pistols into each other at a distance of six feet - 17 rounds from a Glock, 12 rounds from another pistol, and both of them missed each other completely. The Glock wielder had to subdue the other guy with his bare hands and broke three fingers in the process.

And I should also add that cover should not exist in a matchup like this, or if it does, that the gun-user be allowed to benefit from it as well, i.e. fighting in a enclosed area where your sword can get stuck on walls and furnishings. That's a fair fight.

Sithdarth 04-27-2004 11:38 PM

The sword as a sidearm comment was made in the same spirit as this thread. I.E. in a roleplaying setting. Considered that way there are many more ways in which a sword is more useful. Zombies come to mind for one.

Dante 04-27-2004 11:42 PM

While that is correct... I was under the impression that it was a straight sword-vs-gun scenario.

And even against zombies, a gun would still be better because you have a massive range advantage, so you could set off explosives near zombies, or somesuch. And remember, you will get tired swinging that sword sooner or later.

Sithdarth 04-27-2004 11:56 PM

Of course we could always bring Tetsiga into this. Just like Lightsabers were. Of course that would pretty much be the end of any gun. For one Inuyasha is pretty damn fast and strong. For two the Wind Scar pretty much way out guns any carryable firearm. But like Lightsabers lets no dwell on this fact. In fact I regret bringing it up know but what is done is done.

Deathosaurus Wrecks 04-28-2004 12:58 AM

i'd just like to add this to the mix, (even though we've all pretty much agreed that guns are cool) http://world.guns.ru/ammo/sp-e.htm from my favorite website, on the topic of silenced weapons.
