Moral Orel Appreciation Thread
So, if I'm honest, I probably didn't respect Moral Orel enough when it was actually on Adult Swim. However, in my defense, Adult Swim schedules seem to be designed to be understood solely by the stoners who make up their audience, and keeping up with any non-Venture show is a hassle.
However, I stumbled on an interview with one of the VA's for the show sometime after the third season, and thus the show, was over with where he gave it a nice eulogy and described why it probably got canceled so I decided to track down the episodes and find out what I had been missing.
After watching the entirety of the series in about one sitting, I honestly have to say that it is hands down the best non-Venture Bros. show AS has ever aired. The early funny half is just amazingly non-stop funny (although seeing as I'm a Catholic who loves seeing Catholics portrayed as the embodiment of evil for Protestants I don't know how much some of the religious jokes will play for others) and the segue into bleakness, while jarring, never feels forced. The third season probably has some of the most heartwrenchingly brutal scenes in television history, and I sorta stopped watching a few of the more bleak episodes feeling glad they were contained to claymation.
Did anybody else keep up with this gem of a show? While I think the series ending is probably the one the show deserved, when I found out AS simply decided to not fund the seven additional third season episodes I have to admit I was kind of pissed. As is, probably the greatest 43-episode cartoon ever made.
