Game rating information

My parents are a little bit nazi about game ratings, in that even though I'm 17, but little bro is 15 and so I cannot have any M rated games unless they have undergone an extensive search as to why they have that particular rating. So far, Halo 3, Diablo 2, Left 4 Dead, and Half-Life 2 are the only games on the "approved list". One thing I've noticed they're especially particular about is why games have a certain rating. For example, they're totally intolerant of any level of sexual themes/nudity, but violence isn't so major unless its excessive. As a matter of fact, when I was showing them gears videos they were more worried about the swearing than dismembering people with chainsaws.

So um... Fear 2.

Obviously its rated M because its scary, and small children made to play that might actually experience some emotional damage. Anything else in it that makes a major problem?

EDIT: And because my parents and their feelings towards game ratings and censorship have come up with members of this forum before, here's some information that'll speed the process up a bit.

Yes, they really are that strict.
No, they cannot/will not be reasoned with.
No, I can't just say "screw you, its my money and I'll buy what I want" because they will take my Xbox and throw it in a river. I know this because they've done it before.

FEAR 2 has lotsa language, if I recall correctly, meaning it's probably out.

Have your parents considered that the computer games you play can, most commonly, be installed to your account and your account only? It's quite handy. Other than that, I've heard that the ending of FEAR 2 was a bit...squicky, shall we say? I'd say it's not the best game to go for. Good luck though.

Yikes...

I'm pretty sure you just ruled out most (if not all) FPS's and Shooters of late.

Also, yes, having a Good set of Headphones and a separate, password protected account just for games could lift some restrains. I mean, the problem is not you is your lill brother, right? So if you can make sure that only you get exposed to that material....

But, in all Honesty, i've read almost anything good about Fear 2 anyways so you're probably not in for that much of a loss here...

How about TF2? Cartoony violence?

Eltargrim 05-23-2009 10:14 AM

Another couple of games worth a shot are Oblivion and FO3; without the nudity patch in Oblivion there is none and the violence isn't excessive, while in FO3 there's a bit more on the sexual themes, but they're fairly easily avoided.

It has just as much violence as the usual, and there's blood effects to a small degree, but the cartoon-character aspect of it makes it...easier?

It might fly if they can't necessarily be taken seriously. Now, God of War on the other hand...

You can change the gibbing now so it's less gory

Go buy TF2.
