Occupation: Professional Dish Washer.

Hey Guys.

I just got off my first "shift" at what may be my new (and first) job. I dropped off an application at the restaurant Montana's and they imediately set me up with an audition.

this is basically me acting like I work there even though I haven't been hired yet. the job is a Dishwasher. before you start with your laughter, boo's and hisses, hear me out.

The job is part time, with shifts lasting from 5:00 pm to about 11:00 PM. I was part of a chain of people scrubbing, rinsing, loading or running. I was the Loader/runner, it involved me loading a new tray into an industrial dishwasher, then unload them and put them back in their place. doesn't sound like much, but we are talking about the same plates being washed some 50 times per night. My feet are now white with dead skin from being on my feet for 7 hours. (they closed at 12:00 tonight... lucky me.)

The job pays about $7.00/hour, with tips it comes to about $8.00 an hour, which is why it is well worth it. wish me luck for getting the job.

Now, to give this Thread a point: My question is what was your first job? how much did it pay? did you enjoy it? etc. etc...

First job: Clerk at Walgreens. Thats a general "I do EVERYTHING" position. Got it when I was 16.

Pay: You lucky bastard, you make more than I did! Starting $6.50/hr.

Enjoyment: After being employed there a while, I had become convinced that from the very moment I first walked through the doors to that Walgreens, I had been cursed, and that when I was working everything that could go wrong would, and every type of bad customer who could come into the store would. I did not enjoy myself.

Length of Employment: I had it for 2 years.

Funny Sidenote: One of the managers there did not complete high school. I used to annoy him with basic arithmatic. But still, he was pretty cool and a good manager.

Major Injuries Sustained: I was pulling a heavy box off of the belt in the back, and it slammed my hand against the metal beam of the belt. Didn't think anything of it, until I noticed the drops of blood on the top of the box. I needed three stitches in my pinky finger.

My first job: A part time secretary/filer/computer person at a optometrist office, I still work there. I started when I was 16, I'm 18 now. I've worked there about a year and a half. I started at $6.50/hour. I am now up to $7 and about to get a raise. Not sure how much I will be making, most likely $9 or $10. It's going to be a big raise. This job is definitely good for the experience.

Edit: I also fix and repair glasses. I can bend almost any pair back into shape. I'm also always buried in a pile of paperwork or reorganizing the file room. It can be very repetitive work.

Let's see my first job.
"Groundskeeper" at a waste water treatment plant. By groundskeepr I mean I spent every day in the blistering hot sun (I swear every day had to have been in the 90s that summer) cutting grass and trimming. With occasional painting and other odd jobs. I was 15, so I didn't have much choice in jobs. My dad was a manager in the company that ran the plant which is how I even got that job.. I started at $6.50/hr. As soon as the summer was over the job ran out, and I couldn't have been happier.

First job: Stockgirl at Publix. I can't remember off-hand my origional pay, but when I left I was getting 9.50 an hour. I ended up leaving because I kept getting pushed around to jobs I wasn't that well trained for due to a shortage of employees.

My first (and current) job is the guy behind the desk at a small gym. Pretty easy job, its just that I do everything there, and I'm alone. I talk to people at memberships, sell things, do laundry, clean up, open the place in the eveninv, close it at night, everything. But usually, I sit in this uncomfortable chair, and read a book, getting paid 7.00 an hour for 5 hours, one day a week.
