Martial Prowess
This is in reponse to the trend the arsenal theard has taken.
So lets disscuss: Martial arts styles you have taken, eastern, western, hands and feet, weapons, deosnt matter. Current ranking, amount of training etc. Anecdotes about your training, fights you have seen (street or in dojo), senseis or other masters etc. Or anything else you can think of. Summation of my training to date: Well considering the traditional nature of the style I take, the style I take uses the bushido code of the samurai, my training has steadly grown more difficult. When my sensei demonstrates on me now he doesn't pull punches as much as he used too. Also, he now randomly hits my and others of my rank if he thinks we are not paying attention. |
Behold, for I am the only living master of the Fu-Kyu style of martial arts. :p
Okay, humor aside, I've taken a little bit of Tae Kwon Doe, but sadly my lessons were cancelled by my mother. Long story, I'd rather not get into it. I never rose above white belt, though I nearly had my form mastered. :| |
Shorin-ryu Karate-do. It's funny. Shorin-ryu (matsubayashi branch) is extremely similar to Shotokan, and THAT is what Ken and Ryu know.

Self Made Branch - Brawler Fu!
This one of a kind and only used by one person style involves using your weight to slam into your opponent and beat them into a pulp with the wall..or berserkery. It might be an actual style, but I just call it Brawler Fu because it's something few would be willing to try. |
I've never had any professional training per-say...but I've seen alot of movies. I know that anybpdy I get into a fight with probably won't be better than me, and if they are I can run and call a cab at the same time...
I don't live in New York but I can call the company and tell them to drive around 1st street and stop about two blocks ahead of the skinny white guy being chased. If they hit the guy chasing me on "accident" I'll pay triple the fare. |
I have had little to no training. some kung-fu here and there. but i do what i can in my spare time. so pretty much im a wanna be, but i try so im not a total loser. or am I? either way i can do somthin.

i took Aikido for abotu 3 years, gained the rank of 3rd Kyu. I'm taking Tae Kwondo now, and am testing for Yellow belt tomorrow. I'm a Sharpshooter Bar 5 in smallbore rifle shooting, altho i'm a bit rusty in that area probably.
does anyone know of a good place to learn Torinawa Jutso or Hojojutsu? like a book.. that isn't in Kanji, preferably. EDIT you might enjoy this Army Field Manual on hand ot hand combat: http://jawatusi.com/FM21-150/ |
Within the next year I'm looking forward to getting my first rank in brown belt. At which point I'll get to learn a little more about how to use my nunchucks. ( I already know basics sings and catches) After that I get a bow, its a staff but everything is in Japanese in the style I take. Then sometime around brown belt I get to learn how to use a Katana.
Right now I'm self training to be an armor and weapon smith. I plan on making folded blades eventually but for now im stuck with chainmail. I also want to learn to fence and possibly take kendo. Right now I can break 12inch by 12 inch by inch thick boards with my bare hands and feet. Which is one hell of a rush. I can also break those same boards over my head, also a rush. But the greatest feeling I have ever had was when I dropped one of those boards from one hand and broke it in mid air with the other. That made me feel absolutely great. I'm looking forward to my last rank in brown belt because I get to break 2 inch thick cement patio blocks. Just for comparision it takes slightly more force to break a board than a bone. Which is why I can now be charged with assualt with a deadly weapon if i get into a fight. In theory I could punch someone in the forearm and break their arm or smash some ribs pretty good and thats with my fists their is much more power in my legs. But enough about me anyone else got somethin to share? |
I took Tang-soo-do for about two years. but that was a long time ago. but now I am self-trained in broadswords and katanas. I am also a serious crack-shot
|
I took some tae kwon do as a kid, but it didn't last very long. Lately it's been self defense courses and some judo. I've taken a fencing class or two, and know my way around pistols and shotguns, though I wouldn't say I was great with either.
