Americans, continued...(And Europeans)
There was this thread about Americans just some days ago and I didn't have time to comment more on the subject before the thread closed.
So as to what I meant with "We here in europe have more experience..." I meant the fact that we have a longer history, but also more the fact that we have had wars here more that you. So what I meant was that we now more what it is to fight a war in your back yard. I would now like to continue this discussion cause there was so much for me left to say. I will start by asking that do lawyers there do a lot of pro bono cases and take their fee If the suing person wins... I also made this thread about europeans to ask you what do you think about us, as almost all of you are USA citizens. |
The general view of Europe in America is ignorant. As movies like Euro Trip show, Americans seem to think any place that's non-English speaking and furhter than London is weird--basically ruling out the entire right hemisphere. This is largely due to the fact that America is surrounded by English, and surrounded...well, by itself--America.
Unlike European nations, we have little everyday contact with other nations. To many stupid Americans, places even on the borders of America are jokes--it is not uncommon to see people making fun of Canada or Mexico. Why? I don't know why--grown men, women, adults, thinking themselves intelligent treat countries like Canada as if they are these primitive worlds. "Canada? who cares about canada! [generic military joke]" And don't even try talking to any American about France. The whole "France R Evil!" trend is over, folks. Well, it's still going, but its appeal was lost the second it was never funny--which is right when it was started. Yes, an entire country hates us, an entire smelly, evil, French country. These people have no idea what they're talking about and the worst thing is these people grow up and go into society with these ideas and spread them. I'm tired of seeing Comedians making lame French jokes. It's like being openly racist and no one cares. Morons. |
I'm sorry to say, but most of the americans' image of europe comes from jokes that insult the europeans and (on a side note) the french aren't bad its the french in paris that are bad.
|
So, you don't study anything about europe in your schools? And does this french thing come from WWII or cause Canadians speak french too?
And one of the things that make us hate (hate is a word too strong) you is the fact that you don't apreciate us. I mean in for example in military level and in what we have accomlished. You might have accomplished more...maby...but we still have accomplished alot too. I have met some American tourists here though and they seem to think that we are not for any use...this was actually just two guys though. Other Americans I've met have been nice though I never discussed politics with them. I'm happy you dont make jokes about us finns though. Those jokes about french I've seen have been a bit evil sometimes. I'm gonna go to watch TV now and then directly to sleep so dpn't expect me to post until tomorrow. I just hate the timezone difference some times... |
it's the fact that we baled you out in ww1 and 2, we never respected you sence.
and when we study europe we spent most of our time in three areas the middle ages, ww1, and 2, not europe's best years. |
Not europes best years indeed...You didn't win WWI and WWII by your selves you know...
|
nor did you guys
i mean we really didn't want to get in it, it wasn't our war, land, or our problem (mostly), but we acted anyway |
No offcourse we didn't. If with you guys you mean europeans then I must say that we wouldn't have won. But if you mean us finns then it's a different story. You did not help us during WWII.
|
oh go blame swiltzerland they help no one in ethier world war.

NOTE: I am using the female pronouns for countries, because nations are like women. America, being my own country, is the first person plural. Don't ask why, and don't criticize.
No... America's francophobia (means hatred of French people/things. Ooh, vocab word!) is a direct result of the fact that the French are portrayed as thinking they are superior to us. We feel that France is arrogant, and that she should respect us because we saved her butt in WWII. As for the rest of Europe; it is a different culture. That is the simple point of how we think of "Old Europe". It's quite a shock to travel from Boston, one of the most historically rich cities in America, with its 200 something years of history, to Dublin which is over a millenium old. We feel like we're treated as the hero of some Disney movie; the young, brash boy versus the older villain who represents the old ways. |
