Semi-secret for now!

I honestly think this would be a great title for a kung-fu comic.

Anyways, these are my generic questions about your kung-fu project that I don't think will need spoileriffic answers.

1: Is this going to be like 8-bit where you tell the story within so many panels, or Warbot where you tell the story in as many panels as it takes to do so, or is there another formula?

2: Is it plot-driven or will it be similar to Warbot with just the day to day happenings of a kung-fu master?

3: Who's the artist and what other work do they have?

4: Does it have gopher-chucks? I might be disappointed if there is a lack of gopher-related weaponry.

5: 1 being continuity and 10 being "a wizard did it", where would you place this new project's plot/stories?

8: Anything else you can tell us without spoilers?

1. Every page will be a standard size, but there's not a standard panel layout per page. It's currently scripted to largely use "widescreen" panels similar to Atomic Robo.

2. The first "series" will introduce us to the main character, some secondary characters, and a couple antagonists. Once that initial plot resolves itself (within the 90 - 140 page estimate posted on Twitter), the comic will function more like Samurai Jack or Usagi Yojimbo: the main character travels and trains toward a specific goal but gets into other adventures along the way. These stories would not be told linearly.

3. The artist is temporarily a mystery. To my knowledge he hasn't done much that is widely known which is hard to believe 'cause he's damn good at what he does.

4. You might be disappointed.

5. This series will have more logic and realism than 8-bit. People behave rationally, impossible things don't happen. Amazing kung fu things that aren't technically possible happen, so I'd say it's a Two or Three on your scale.

8. There's a punch on the first page.

I thought 8-bit was logical, in a screwed up way.

Same here.

Here's another question: You said it would be like Samurai Jack; does that mean that there won't be much character progression? I would imagine yes, since the stories are not told chronologically.

Kurosen 06-01-2009 05:45 PM

The thing about Samurai Jack is that he's timeless. There's no real timeline for Jack, most of his stories can happen in any order without affecting the narrative. Our character ages and we'll see how he grows/changes over the years in the first series as a kind of primer for his lifetime.

Our non-linear storytelling in the "wandering hero" stage after that series will further illustrate the whys and hows for his previously demonstrated changes. There is a timeline, but the stories will not necessarily be told in the order they occur.

I shall cling to that small bit of hope, then.

I swear I had a six and a seven when I made the first post, yet have no idea where the damn things ran off to.

Too bad it's not also a volleyball comic because then the punch could be spiked.

Being something of a martial artist myself, I must ask, is there an effective use of headbutting or stomping? I love those moves, and they don't get enough use.

Also does someone get punished harsh for axe-kicking?

Eldezar 06-15-2009 11:47 PM

I don't see any gods-damned punching.
