Magical Girl Transformation: Didn't see it. Probably wouldn't care.

Linearity: I love linearity, though I definitely see where Mike is coming from on this one.

Story integration: I have to agree. I don't generally associate Metroid with cinematic cutscenes. I don't have a problem with them, but MP3 seemed better off without them.

Gameplay: Once again, and I'm as shocked as anyone, I have to agree with Mike. It could be awesome, but it sounds like an "OMG IDEA IS SOOOO ORIGINAL TOO BAD THE APPLICATION SUCKS!" instance.

Honestly when Nintendo said it was going to become a first-person perspective adventure game the reaction was more or less similar, so I'll withhold judgment.

...what the fuck?

Yup. There's an anime and manga and everything... I think.

The game is known for its Western conversion in 1988 as Super Mario Bros. 2 for the Nintendo Entertainment System, which had its characters changed to those from Nintendo's popular Mario franchise.

Unlike the majority of other Mario titles, SMB2 was not developed from an independent point, but rather it is a redesign of the Japanese Famicom Disk System game Yume Kōjō: Doki Doki Panic. Nintendo's original sequel to Super Mario Bros. was released in Japan as "Super Mario Bros. 2" in 1986, however because of that game's perceived difficulty and its close similarities to the original game, Nintendo decided not to release it in the West at that time.

This is very true, and I do hold that into consideration. I just don't find what I see in the trailer to be what I look for in a Metroid game. Like I said, this could all be reversed when more tangible gameplay is shown; I'd just rather have reservations be proven wrong than have high hopes crashing to the ground.

The thing with Metroid Prime is that it was one thing. They were able to focus on making that one thing awesome. This is multiple things. I worry that at least one of the gameplay types will suffer from it.

It's that fucking great.
Astonishing game, really: the original is surely in my top 5 ever, but this one seemed so fucking spot on...it has the same feeling, the same pacing, the same atmosphere... and it plays like a motherfucking DREAM.
The action is even more smooth, the rhythm is insane and the fact that the character can now float makes things a little different yet so familiar.

Game of the show IMHO (at least for now) along with Bayonetta.

Oh, just a little complain: the graphics are not that amazing, especially the textures could definitely use some work.
But it's ok since there's so much stuff on screen...

Q1 2010 CANNOT COME SOON ENOUGH

Not in the E3 demo.
And about the sword slashes: if you quickly press B you swing the sword, if you keep B pressed you fire projectiles.
If works amazing, really (even if honestly the demo -which is pretty long!- is mainly focused on gunfire).

BTW with the fact that you often float the game has a very Space Harrier feel to it.

AIR ROLLING?!

Like Mdk7 said, the action is really smooth and silky and everything feels so natural. Doing rolls in the air is funky at first, but it really becomes first-hat very quickly. Please everyone, buy this game when it comes out. It's that good.

First video with actual English voice acting. Also near the end when all the villains are being shown, you catch a glimpse of this guy:

So, I think we're safe.

Seriously man, I unno. If just ONE producer stayed and liked Inagaki to produce a bouncy Samus that completely negates everything she stood for in the 80s 90s and today. That of a kickass heroine who didn't need a body to be deadly. Just a suit of armor and more ammo than a colonial Space Marine.
