There's still rumors of FFXI being ported over to the PS3, so that may come tomorrow, although it could've been all about FFXIV, so who knows.

Honestly, I just want this all over with so I know what PS3 I should buy. :x

Also, saw the Metroid trailer... Ninja Gaiden Metroid, it looks like.

So... jesus fuck, it's gonna be hard.

I noticed in the Other M footage Ridley is pulling the grab and grind move he did in SSB:B. It's a lot bulkier than he was in Brawl, which I think is too bad - his stick-like neck actually looked pretty cool.

At least he's purple.

Alright sweet, we get a look in the past long before Adam bit the dust and was uploaded to the ship. I'm kind of glad we're not dealing with more Metroid-DNA-Fusion-suit whatsit shit. Power suit is where it's at.

NSMBWii looks good.

Golden Sun DS shit yeah ladies, wish I still had my old Lost Age save.

When's the Konami conference? I want to podcast a big old discussion about this but I don't want to wait that long.

Nice List RT. THat covers all the important games.

P-Sleazy 06-02-2009 05:34 PM

As per RT's latest post, what I gather is that of the 11 big things we have so far, 8 of them are Nintendo Related, and the other 3 are split between PS3, 360 and Windows. And we're STILL expecting more things from Nintendo.

Regulus Tera 06-02-2009 05:39 PM

No; that just means I'm a Nintendo whore.

Not only that but there's a small section with what looks like (Super Metroid spoilers) Mother Brain in her big-stompy-laser-robot form from Super Metroid, and at the end of the trailer is Samus in a lab checking bodies? An orbital lab? Say near Ceres? It's unlikely but there could be some Super Metroid remakery bits there.

Whatever it is I want to play it right now and can't wait for 2010 or at least for some story details to appear. I'd like to find out what happens after Fusion but prequels are tasty enough. Definitely highlight of the show (so far) for me.

Kim 06-02-2009 05:42 PM

Reggie: What Mr. Miyamoto has shared is that if the first Galaxy was maybe more inviting in terms of all the audiences, what Galaxy 2 is going to be is maybe a little more Nintendo fan / harder gamer focused. A little tougher. The use of Yoshi makes it a little more challenging. We showed some of the snippets of some of the activities -- it's a bit more challenging. It's going to be, if you will, for more of that passionate Mario fan who grew up getting challenged with Super Mario World. It's going to be much more in that area

Seems like they are answering my only complaint about Galaxy.

I've been telling those pricks for years!

BB 06-02-2009 07:00 PM

If they omit the purple coin missions they answer my only complaint about SMG.

Funnily enough, collecting 100 stupid damn coins in stupid damn places was really tedious and actually ruined that game for me. "Oh hey lets place coins 95-100 over an instant death pit which if you fall into means you have to find every single one again and lets put them really low down so you need the timing of a ninja to get them all and survive! Yeah!" Screw you, desert level!

It's a shame because up to those missions I really loved the game but they frustrated me so much I got sick of it. I'll have to come back to it at some point and just pretend they aren't there.

Harpell 06-02-2009 07:10 PM

They better not announce new Pikmin or Zelda, or I might have to tattoo the Nintendo logo on my goddamn chest.

Assholes.

01d55 06-02-2009 07:16 PM

My big concern with the Other M story is that it's going to turn out to be the Adam Malkovich show: guest-starring Samus Aran due to a misguided attempt to justify Samus liking him so much in Metroid 4.
To clarify what I mean, a story about the Life and Times of Adam Malkovich and the parts of the Life and Times of Samus Aran in which Adam plays a role are very different, and I'd much prefer to see the latter. Normally I wouldn't worry, but Adam's a dude and Samus isn't, and it's still all too common for women to draw the short stick even when they're supposed to be the protagonist of the fucking story.

I ain't saying he should be a bit player or a chump. When Samus Aran thinks you were an awesome motherfucker you've got to have thrown down some serious shit. Best case, he comes up with smart plans and maybe gets a little bit of UST, but he doesn't leap into direct action until it's time to die for the cause. There's plenty of room to take that too far. Worst case scenario, Adam's a Gary Stu and Samus has an obvious crush on him.

Fifthfiend 06-02-2009 07:25 PM

Yeah I will say that if Samus Aran gets downgraded to fucking fanservice character in her own series I will go from room to room of Nintendo headquarters cutting whatever I find inside.

The clips in that trailer showed a lot of Samus Aran owning the fuck out of some monsters so I'm not too worried but let's be honest ever since that blue-bodysuit shit went down it's been a concern.

...Basically the ideal dude role in a Metroid story is that one dude bounty hunter from the Nintendo Power Metroid comic a million years ago.

Kim 06-02-2009 07:29 PM

Shouldn't you be doing that to the Team Ninja people, and not Nintendo? Just sayin'.

The two different viewpoints in the game, first person and third person, while interesting, do give me pause to worry. I have hard time explaining why.

It looks like something akin to the straight flight/free fly modes in Star Fox, could be a situation change to make boss fights or special encounters more intense/give you better views of the ass-butchery

If Siegfried sticks Roy's face into the tiger's mouth and the tiger bites down, is it really the tiger you hold responsible?

Arrekusu 06-02-2009 07:36 PM

I was going to argue that a Tiger's function was to eat flesh, then I understood your allegory. Well played sir, well played.

Kim 06-02-2009 07:39 PM

Actually, it'd be more like if Siegfried had heard that Roy was a pretty good guy and a good magician and invited him to help with a show; only then Roy disembowels the tiger on stage and bathes in its blood. Maybe Siegfried shouldn't have trusted Roy, but Roy is still the one who did the thing what he did.

Except that Siefried would be watching as Roy began to disembowel the tiger and could have made him stop at any time, but instead chose to just stand there and let it happen, then act as though it's just what he had planned.

Keep in mind that Nintendo's giving them a franchise that has a habit of having the heroine strip down when you play the game fast enough.

I consider completely avoiding fan service a lost cause, so I'm just hoping that it'll have the gameplay to make up for it ten fold.

I mean, god damn Nintendo, stop making me like your characters so much. You're going to turn me into one of those guys who buys a game just because a certain character is in it.

Kerensky287 06-02-2009 09:21 PM

"More grown up than ever before" makes me a little nervous.

Like, beard/mustache/any facial hair? May be good if pulled off properly.

But "adult" has many meanings. Will this be the first AO-rated Zelda?

Lost in Time 06-02-2009 09:28 PM

Maybe Link has an eye missing and a large scar down his cheek, and he traded the master sword in for a bottle of scotch?

This is Nintendo, he probably just looks taller and maybe a little more girth in the arms.

phil_ 06-02-2009 09:34 PM

I'm liking most of what I'm reading in Shiggy's round table. Nintendo seems to have figured out that experienced gamers are still playing their console and are trying to give us stuff to play this holiday and next year. Plus, I respect his whole "tech-demos are nice, but I'd rather show stuff that's actually being worked on" stance.

Really? Reeeeally?

I'm hyped as shit for Galaxy 2 though. Since I assume they're reusing the old codes and engines and what not, they should be able to focus on patching up Galaxy's few flaws and make the game as a whole better and longer than the original. Or they could completely half ass it. Who knows.

Oh god I just noticed the "magical girl transforming"-esque way she puts on the suit in that video.

I have some serious reservations about Metroid: Other M. Yeah, the breast loving dude left Team Ninja, but also, pretty much what made good Team Ninja games laft as well. The mixing of the sidescroller and third person elements seems really kinda weird, and I'm starting to fear this will be a very linear game. Fusion was pretty linear, but I can't shake the notion that exploration will be taken out of this entirely.

Also, story scenes, what? I like my story integrated into the actual game, like how Retro Studios was doing it.

I know I have a reputation of being a pessimist about things like this around here, but I see very little to look forward to in this new Metroid venture. Hopefully my fears will be/already have been disproved by actual gameplay footage, but I'll not hold my breath, instead opting to wait to see what Retro Studios is working on next.

Something I find very intriguing, however, is this rumor that Kojima Productions will be handling the next Castlevania.

Kim 06-02-2009 10:29 PM

Magical Girl Transformation: Didn't see it. Probably wouldn't care.

Linearity: I love linearity, though I definitely see where Mike is coming from on this one.

Story integration: I have to agree. I don't generally associate Metroid with cinematic cutscenes. I don't have a problem with them, but MP3 seemed better off without them.

Gameplay: Once again, and I'm as shocked as anyone, I have to agree with Mike. It could be awesome, but it sounds like an "OMG IDEA IS SOOOO ORIGINAL TOO BAD THE APPLICATION SUCKS!" instance.

Honestly when Nintendo said it was going to become a first-person perspective adventure game the reaction was more or less similar, so I'll withhold judgment.

...what the fuck?

Yup. There's an anime and manga and everything... I think.

The game is known for its Western conversion in 1988 as Super Mario Bros. 2 for the Nintendo Entertainment System, which had its characters changed to those from Nintendo's popular Mario franchise.

Unlike the majority of other Mario titles, SMB2 was not developed from an independent point, but rather it is a redesign of the Japanese Famicom Disk System game Yume Kōjō: Doki Doki Panic. Nintendo's original sequel to Super Mario Bros. was released in Japan as "Super Mario Bros. 2" in 1986, however because of that game's perceived difficulty and its close similarities to the original game, Nintendo decided not to release it in the West at that time.

This is very true, and I do hold that into consideration. I just don't find what I see in the trailer to be what I look for in a Metroid game. Like I said, this could all be reversed when more tangible gameplay is shown; I'd just rather have reservations be proven wrong than have high hopes crashing to the ground.

The thing with Metroid Prime is that it was one thing. They were able to focus on making that one thing awesome. This is multiple things. I worry that at least one of the gameplay types will suffer from it.

It's that fucking great.
Astonishing game, really: the original is surely in my top 5 ever, but this one seemed so fucking spot on...it has the same feeling, the same pacing, the same atmosphere... and it plays like a motherfucking DREAM.
The action is even more smooth, the rhythm is insane and the fact that the character can now float makes things a little different yet so familiar.

Game of the show IMHO (at least for now) along with Bayonetta.

Oh, just a little complain: the graphics are not that amazing, especially the textures could definitely use some work.
But it's ok since there's so much stuff on screen...

Q1 2010 CANNOT COME SOON ENOUGH

Not in the E3 demo.
And about the sword slashes: if you quickly press B you swing the sword, if you keep B pressed you fire projectiles.
If works amazing, really (even if honestly the demo -which is pretty long!- is mainly focused on gunfire).

BTW with the fact that you often float the game has a very Space Harrier feel to it.

AIR ROLLING?!

Like Mdk7 said, the action is really smooth and silky and everything feels so natural. Doing rolls in the air is funky at first, but it really becomes first-hat very quickly. Please everyone, buy this game when it comes out. It's that good.

First video with actual English voice acting. Also near the end when all the villains are being shown, you catch a glimpse of this guy:

So, I think we're safe.

Seriously man, I unno. If just ONE producer stayed and liked Inagaki to produce a bouncy Samus that completely negates everything she stood for in the 80s 90s and today. That of a kickass heroine who didn't need a body to be deadly. Just a suit of armor and more ammo than a colonial Space Marine.
