NIF is touted as the world's highest-energy laser system. It is located inside the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory about an hour's drive from San Francisco.

I'm pro-laser. Not only does it satisfy the science fiction within, they're more accurate than conventional missiles. And much faster!

I'm pro-not-being-turned-into-a-smoking-crater, but I can see your point about a death lazer being somewhat fucking awesome. And also invisible! Don't forget that!

I'll be impressed when someone finds me a youtube video of this thing shooting cans in the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory back lot.
