Brians's style... the evolution of 8-bit theatre
I was looking through the archives and just has to notice the evolution of 8-bit's style. The origonal stuff sure wasn't as clean-lookin' as todays strips are... But they are still pretty good. I also noted that he's used game backrounds less-and-less... what say ye'? Any comments on the evolution of 8-bit?

Well, I noticed that earlier ones used to have more colums instead of the four we have now.

Well the text in the bubble messages didn't evolve that fast, it was just episode 1 and 2, then POOF! Change text. Hasn't changed since 3.
At the beginning as it seems, he wanted to do more of a FF1 video game parody. Now that he's done all the jokes, but has created original new characters, he is advancing on those characters from there, by making his own humorous style of comics. He also toned down on video game similarities. They don't go by every cave or temple anymore, he replaced the entire fire cavern with a house, and a driveway. And he's starting to make up monsters. |
He's also changed the ff 1 story line significantly which brings up many questions: In ff 1, when you supposedly "defeat" Garland he is zapped 2000 years back in time. In 8-bit, he stays. There is no Drizz'l in ff 1 and most of all: Sara never gave the LWs the Lute (Dun dun dunnn). A lot of things have been changed. At first Brian was sticking to ff 1 "Go get my daughter from Garland and I'll reward ya." but then, Sara was HELPING Garland (can you spell plot twist?) then came the whole guest dungeon, snacks, imps writing a fake speach and the vat of Mountain Dew (the horror!). By the time they got back to Corneria, it was a whole other story!

ANNOUNCER: "And our next contestant, Brain Griffin!"
BRIAN: "Well, we're of to a great start." |
Fighter has gotten smarter. I miss the, "I like swords!" bit. BM still uses Hadoken, but Fighter doesn't say, "I like swords!" anymore. And actually, Garland wasn't shot 2000 years into the past in the original; CHAOS was around forever. But back on topic, I agree with Kylco.
Also, Nique, you can change a thread's title by editing the first post and changing the title. |
well if you look at it from a grander perspective, Brian is still going with the storyline of the original FF1 but there is one HUGE difference. The Light warrriors that we all know and love aren't the offiicial Light warriors by Fate. Remember that there were four adult guys. THEY are the ones who are suppose to save the world but BM, F, RM, and T beat them to Corneria and are always one step ahead of the actual Light Warriors. ANother difference is the maping of the Level. So far, the 8-bit theater cast has so far followed the strategy guide. They are now past Lich. They will eventually fight Shiva.
:bmage: As long I get to kill, I don't care what we do |
Brian is only keeping up with the times. People demand better quality grpahics, yet still have a tradition classic style. Brian combines those to elements and creates a perfect comic. Of course, the comics are always self improving, thus making the viewers happier results and giving Brian the more-than-well deserved praise he gets.

But yeah, other than glaring storyline deviations, 8-bit pretty much could pass for FF1... i mean, its not like it had a whole lot of story there anyway... |
