Twitter : 140 characters of Doom

The thread title sounds more exciting than the thing it's talking about...

So, anybody here have Twitter? Do you twitter? I twitter. I Just got Twitter, i'm twitting right now. Don't you Twitt?

No seriously... i just got too curious to ignore it. Now i'm in there and i'm looking around trying to figure it out "what the hell is this all about". So, if anybody here has an account i would like to follow you...

...EVERYWHERE

Also, thoughts on the Twitter explosion on the web recently?

I don't understand the appeal of twitter. It seems to me just people posting their trivial activities and thoughts. Can anyone explain the phenom better?

Nom, i really think you got it just fine... so far i haven't seen anything aside from that. The only "plus" is that there are job agencies placing job applications via Twitter and the occasional Dell Coupon.

This video explains it well: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PN2HAroA12w

"It's just a bunch of people bragging about their unexceptional lives!"
"Oh, now you're getting it!"

I don't get the appeal of twitter either.

Think of it as a microblog. Like, the posts that you don't bother blogging because they're too short, Twitter those.

Alternately if trivial twittering isn't your thing, you can also use it more productively.

It's good for venting out too... i mean, i just got a Firefox plugin called TwitterBar. I don't even have to open anything or visit the Twitter page... just type what i want in the Address bar on firefox, click a button, and BOOM! It's on Twitter.

It really doesn't get any lazier than that.

You're all twits.

Ooh, I need to find those job agencies!

And yes, I do twit. I try not to abuse it, though, unlike a dear friend of mine who twits the most banal crap ever. I have twitter set so that my phone doesn't get bombarded with the latest on when she's ovulating or what color tile she decided on for the bathroom of her new home.

My mom signed up for twitter once. It actually scared her, and I had a few panicked voicemails from her about it. I laughed and laughed.

I don't twit myself, though. If anyone is bored enough to actually care to have real time updates of my life, they must be ready to shoot themselves about now.

"Wasted 2 hours on RO"
"Mmm, cheez-its, I am addicted yet again"
"My toes look funny"

Exciting.
