Karate Kid: the remake

It's going by the name Kung Fu Kid which does very little to bolster my enthusiasm. That, coupled with the karate kid being played by Will Smith's son and being co-produced by a Chinese state run film group...ugh. I just hope they don't go for the whole Gen-X inyoface street slant. I just can't help but picture another Dragonball, slow-mo and all. The only redeeming quality to me is Jaden's performance in Pursuit.

Wait....Jackie Chan will play the old teacher-guy role? Is he really that old now that he can pull that off? These kind of films beg for some short old Asian guy.

I have huge faith on anything that Will Smith approaches, but his son has only worked on movies where i thought he was the worst thing on screen! Also, Jackie Chan usually is very good when he has any reach in the stunt department (and it's not just submissive to the script) so this could be a good surprise... however, the idea itself sound a bit farfetch'ed for me right now.

Are we already back on the trend of Kiddies martial movies? What's next? Are we going to revive the Dog Movies industry??

This cannot succeed.

There is no Mako.

So... what, is it a tribute to Pat Morita or something? Because I think we can do better.

I don't really understand the point of this remake. The karate kid was a pretty straightforward movie: kid gets bullied, kid learns kung fu, kid beats up bullies. There's not a whole lot that the first movie didn't explore.

I thought it was: kid gets bullied, meets Japanese guy, Japanese guy teaches him Karate through washing cars, kid beats up bullies, kid gets life lessons.
