Is there a way to remove the stupid "add a tab" button in firefox?

'cause I'm double clickin' all the way baby.

Seriously, this thing annoys me. It just showed up and I hate it. It reminds me of IE. I don't want it. Changes bad.
It may be a stupid question, and I'd probably be able to find out myself if I wasn't in such a bad mood (to which that button contributed, I hate it)
Yeah, my computer constantly shuts itself down due to massive heat in my room, but that's not what I want help with now. What I need now is a way to remove that button.
Help will be much appreciated.

EDIT: Where the fuck is my hourglass when I click a link? What kind of bogus update is this? Sorry.
I actually wanted to ask if there is a way of removing the button without reverting to an old version.

First of all, give us as small run down here man... what version of Firefox are you on right now? Do you use any Firefox plugins and addons?

I have this button onmy tab bar, but it's just a small "+" on the corner of the tab bar. Really unintrusive. That's whats causing you trouble?!

View-> Toolbars -> Customize. Drag it away.

You can also change all kinds of other crap like that.

Yeah you can pretty much remove everything if you want. I pretty much just have the URL bit and the file, edit, view bar and that's all that is showing.

Apparently doesn't work in 3.5, I tried to do it that way and it didn't work.

Ah, sorry. Thanks for the replies so far, but I didn't make myself clear enough because I was/am slightly pissed (not only at the button, but at several things at once, I'm not messed up enough to lose my nerves over a button in my browser, even though it may seem this way).

I updated from whichever 3.x version to 3.5 today because my old version didn't work anymore for no apparent reason.

I don't mean the neat button next to the url field (which I put there myself, even though I don't need it), but rather the little plus-symbol right to rightmost tab. Which means you can't remove it by dragging it away the way someone suggested. I don't have any plugins installed that should add unwanted buttons, it only started showing up after I updated.
It just kinda annoys me, I don't know. I just wish it weren't there.

(Note: I reread this post thoroughly, removing all cuss words)

EDIT: Seriously, where's my hourglass?
EDIT 2: Never mind, it seems it only was temporarily absent.

The add a tab button is because of 3.5. I'm not sure why it's bothering you so much... It's one less click to make a new tab!

There doesn't appear to be a way to remove it now anyway.

Edit: Oh hey look at this. Sixth result for a Google search of "firefox 3.5 add a tab button".

though it seems you found it

Hourglass? Did you mean the throbber/"activity indicator"?

Shin Amakiir 07-15-2009 03:41 AM

I think the OP meant the standard Windows Hourglass / Shiny Circle which means that work be happenin'. It doesn't show up on my computer, either. I've got 3.5 as well.

synkr0nized 07-15-2009 03:47 AM

I bet you knew the difference, but your wording indicated otherwise.

Well, the hourglass[XP and before]/spinning circle[Vista and newer] on your mouse icon isn't actually related to whether or not the browser is contacting a server and rendering a page. That's the throbber/activity indicator, and if people upgrading to 3.5 have lost it and want it back they should check the "customize" option after right-clicking any toolbar. You can then put it back onto the main window (though it is there by default on tabs).
