Final fantasy, speed gamers marathon for charity

Everyone should go ahead and give this a look. These guys have been running marathons for a long time now. They are currently playing all Final Fantasys in a row to raise money for ACT (Autism awareness) Everyone should check it out and lend some support.

I'm quite enjoying it so far.

Anyone else watching at the moment? Local (The guy playing at the moment) has had quite a few close calls in FF2! Good thing he's got most of the grinding out of the way now.

It's hard to keep up interest. I wish they'd turn down the volume on the game a bit and have conversations that you could hear, let alone bother listening to. Or play some funky music. When I first tuned in they were playing Dragonforce real loud. Good times.

Maybe when they get up to the games I've actually played. . .

I'm treating it mostly something like a radio where I can tune in and out through the day. They've turned it down now so you can hear them talking.

The last guy playing grinded for about 6 hours in FF2 of all games. That is a feat in itself!

They seem to be mixing it up a lot. Sometimes you can hear them talking quite well like when I was watching earlier and now they just pumping out some music through one guy who is acting as a DJ and not talking. Which gives some variety.
And people passed out on the bed behind them, good to see.
Also the DJs method is awesome- he is putting his headphones hooked up to an Ipod on the mic of a headset. And surprisingly it is very clear.

But so much grinding! Though it's ok because it FF2 and FF2 has wacky level grinding!

Well, the Final Fantasy II game has been completed.

I have learnt from this experience that there is only one thing worse than playing FF2 non-stop for 22 hours.

That is watching someone play FF2 for 22 hours non-stop.

FF6 is coming up now!

What, no 3, 4, or 5?

P-Sleazy 07-18-2009 10:38 PM

they're doing the games out of order for some reason.

Aren't these the same guys who did a Mega Man run?

Eldezar 07-18-2009 11:23 PM

This is their 13th marathon, 8th for charity, I forget if they did Megaman. They are doing them out of order because of work schedules, as well as some of the people flew or drove a long ways. They live in Texas, one guy is from Canada, someone from Georgia, and I think they're only there for the weekend. The order is 1, 2, 6, 5, 3, 7, 9, 10, 4, 8, 12.

They are using mostly remakes for the older ones. Mostly because they try to avoid ROMs whenever they can. The only one I know they used an emulator was for Mother 3 during their Mother/Earthbound marathon. Also they don't want to use the NES because it is far too risky to stream a marathon with it since the NES would more likely freeze during gameplay than any other system.

They will have somebody make a brand-new character for 11, and play for about ~12 hours, getting as far as they can in that time. Skipping all possible cutscenes. That is if they get through all of the other games in the week.

They've also mentioned Nuklearpower a lot since they found out Brian put them on the news post, so that's pretty cool, too.
