Microsoft is producing seven short films titled "Halo Legends" in the anime style. Five production houses in Japan are handling the physical animation, but Microsoft's creative staff is approving major visual and storytelling decisions, O'Connor said.

I personally wonder why they felt like it needed to be anime, and not western. I hope the series itself is fully CG like the second image.

Ok, i'll step on the landmine.

This is weird. Not just the milking of the franchise (that's just Awkward), but in the sense that from my experience, the Major block, the core center of the Halo Lovers (not a small group), that held this franchise as some sort of Holy Grail, that put it on top of all Other FPS's out there, and claim that it alone can withstand all... those are the types of people these shorts (and all the spin offs i would dare say...) are mainly aimed at. Right?

Well... from what i was able to see in the past few years, those are the same types of people who would go on and on over rants about Eastern-Anything. Specially anime and games (as a example, citing that every JRPG is a waste of time and a bad game overall, because of the "J" in there, and thinking that this is some sort of valid thought process)

So, coming out of the Blue with... Halo Anime? Don't get me wrong here, it's not necessarily a bad idea... but Animatrix could pull this off... but Halo? I really don't think so. Specially after seeing that G.I. Joe Short that was done recently... why not make a Halo product like that? It would work...

On the other hand, i noticed that they are Making Assassin's creed into a Live action short. Which i also though was wrong... they could make it in full 3d and it would be great (although more expensive, probably).

The bottomline? I look at this picture and something feels REALLY Off.......

I think it's the angular anime face. The overall style just doesn't fit the Halo franchise.

Kerensky287 07-23-2009 10:42 PM

I think the head is just a little too small.

And I don't know what those ships are in the background. They don't look like any UNSC stuff I've seen in the games... and is it just me, or do they have fucking Spartans riding on them?

krogothwolf 07-24-2009 12:07 AM

They have spartans riding on them.

The helmet looks off the most.

Regardless of whether or not anime fits the style of tone of Halo, I cannot deny that that pic is gorgeously colored.

And I haven't even played Halo (perhaps this explains it?)

But seriously I think the artists at least were doing a great job.

Gametrailers has a trailer up.

The Halo franchise is a whiney 11-year-old kid only pleased if he successfully team kills or if chicken fingers are for dinner.

A corny anime fits this franchise perfectly.

Random Ninja 07-24-2009 09:52 AM

Some of the trailer bits look have decent, but the dramatic unarmored female spartan(?) one and the Samurai duel between Chief and that Elite were kind of cheeseball.

For the record, CG is always cheaper than the real thing. This is especially true of anything non-real, like historical settings.
