Dante's Inferno Has you shoved up Cerberus Ass, yo'll love it!

You know how sometimes we make thread titles joking about silly stuff that has nothing to do with the actual product?

Yeah, this isn't one of those...

During the Dante's Inferno panel earlier today at the San Diego Comic-Con, director Vic Cook explained just how deep Dante would travel in the animated feature.

"You're gonna love it. We've got bodies flying around. We've got Dante literally being shoved up a monster's butt."

Um...what?

Perhaps I just heard that wrong. I figured they would take extensive liberties with the original work, but there's no way they would get that extensive, would they? Let's see what the game's executive producer, Jonathan Knight has to say.

"In the original game script we wrote that Cerberus was going to shove Dante up his ass...it was a crazy, crazy scene. We just couldn't do it in the game for a lot of reasons. To have that moment that was in the game script that was cut from the game to show up in the animated feature is just really cool."

...okay then. Might want to keep that in mind when you see the Dante's Inferno DVD on shelves sometime in 2010...you know...if you're into that sort of thing.

Aside from the monster anal, Cook also hinted at a scene set in the Lust level, directed by anime director Dong Woo, that was absolutely mind-blowing, over the top..."I can't even talk about it because there are children here." So don't worry about spoilers. The worst is yet to come!

So, Ok, this is for the animated short that goes with the Game. But the entire Lust level seems to be filled on par with stuff like this.

So... uh... is this... like... ok?

I mean, i'm a little at a loss of words here. Is this what Mature games are supposed to be about? Is this the sort of stuff gamers should expect from their M rated games?

...Does this have anything to do with Dante's Inferno?

Probably a bit more over the top and not entirely meant to be serious; that is, the developers pushing it as much as they can. Really, though, while ratings are generally pretty fluid just because you got a different guy doing the rating (e.g. identical content labeled Mature in one title might be Adults Only in another), there is a sort of realistic limit on what you expect to find in a Mature title. It's probably not going to be as excessive as you believe, otherwise it would go to Adults Only - if it ever was excessive, yet now rated Mature, it's because they cut out the excessive stuff.

As for what it has to do with Dante's Inferno, probably just this side of nothing. The epic would be westernized and modified so much to adhere to a gory adventure game that about the only thing you can expect to relate to the source material is the names of characters, locations, and the overall story arc.

this would work if it WASN"T handled by these guys. If it was, like the story, artsy and metaphor drive it could work. But I bet you spend most of the time fighting demons with a magic sword.

And why is it always Cerberus? Christianity has its own hellhounds why do they always see fit to rip off one from another religion, and always the same one. Atleast be original and use Barghest or something

Cerberus was actually in the book...
The book is loaded with things from Italian/Greek mythology. There's like all these classical giants running around and centaurs and the styx and classical heroes and on and on.

Aerozord 07-24-2009 01:54 AM

as I said, its always cerberus

Doesn't DI have to do with 7 layers of Hell, an at the final layer, a three headed Satan chews on Judas?

Aerozord 07-24-2009 02:05 AM

and two other guys. Dante believed betrayal was the worst sin

Kepor 07-24-2009 02:09 AM

There were nine, and several were subdivided. The circle for the violent, for example, contained three.

The other two were Brutus and Cassius, the murderers of Julius Caesar. The book is loaded with classical allusions. Replacing Cerberus makes no sense. The book is not a collection of random mythologies, it is a very careful alignment of classical and christian mythology. It wouldn't make any sense to put in, say, barghest. It's not like he was like "I need a big scary dog/monster! Who should I get?" which you can accuse other works of who throw Cerbies in randomly.
Read the book, other dog type things wouldn't make sense.

I see your point and its a valid one. Its also why I'm betting these guys are seriously gonna screw it up
